For #WorldWaterWeek, we celebrate small-scale irrigation initiatives. Many regions in Ethiopia consistently face water scarcity during the dry season, especially with high community demands. As community attitudes shift and awareness of the benefits of clean, irrigated water grows, the demand for irrigation water often increases. Responding to these challenges, our Ethiopian partner, WRDA, has been implementing increased irrigation activities with immense success! Community members participate in a series of training including small-scale irrigation techniques, agronomic practices, climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest handling techniques, and others related to production and harvest. The rewards reaped are felt throughout the community of local farmers, with the majority able to grow enough fresh produce to eat and feed their families and have their dreams come to fruition. Members are saving money to build their homes, start businesses, purchase livestock, and much more.

For #WorldWaterWeek we want to acknowledge the importance of having safe and potable water. For Kabiru's community in Ghana, having an abundance of clean water has always proved challenging. But, the residents have come together and faced this hurdle head on. An existing dam in the community broke from heavy rainfall, which drastically impacted their water supply. But, the residents bonded together, and in the face of adversity, drilled additional boreholes and were able to manage through a difficult time. Kabiru's community displayed great resilience, and the power that can be achieved, together.

This week is #WorldWaterWeek, a time to reflect on the importance of water, and the interconnectivity of communities and nations that water brings. We're celebrating the important work our partners are doing worldwide for water cultivation, safety, education, and preservation. In Bolivia, our partner Sociedad San Jose holds water education classes with youth on the water cycle and the importance of clean and safe water for health and the environment.

Reaching communities in Ethiopia and Ghana, The SHINE Project aims to make a difference by standing with women farmers to build women-led agribusiness. Being implemented in partnership with a strong network of local organizations, this project helps women farmers boost food production through climate-resilient farming, natural pest control, new food preservation techniques and access to effective food storage. The mutual exchange of knowledge between Indigenous Peoples enriches communities, aiding in cultural preservation and sustainable development. The communities of Neyashiinigmiing (Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation) and Poroma in Bolivia had the chance to meet in person in Neyashiinigmiing for an Indigenous knowledge exchange where, bound by both commonalities and challenges, they were united in their determination of Indigenous solidarity, food security, and resilience. Today, for International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we honour Indigenous knowledge transmission and support the facilitation of these exchanges as a means of cultural healing, partnership strengthening, and mutual learning.
