Our very own John Carswell was interviewed by the CFA Society of Toronto and featured in their quarterly publication The Analyst - June 2024 edition (www.cfatoronto.ca). In the article, John reflects on his career, the experiences that led him to founding Canso and some of his investment predictions that have played out in credit markets. John earned his CFA Charter in 1988 and is currently one of the longest-tenured CFA charterholders still active in the business. John continues to enjoy his investment work but finds the most rewarding aspect to be developing the next generation of bond investors. We are so proud of John’s contributions and lasting legacy in the Canadian investment industry.

On Thursday, June 13th Canso participated in a United Way Day of Caring event. The group went to Newmarket Community Garden with the York Region Food Network which operates an allotment garden in central Newmarket. Allotment gardens provide community members with access to a 10 x 20 ft plot of land, offering a chance to grow food, form social networks and connect with the land. Our volunteers cleared out a few plots of land to make them ready for planting for users who have mobility issues.

Like George W. Bush standing on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln in May 2003, the market appears to have hoisted the “Mission Accomplished” banner on this monetary tightening cycle. Risk premiums have dropped, borrowers have renewed access to capital and the percentage of economists predicting a recession has dropped considerably from the “100%” tally of not so many months ago.
