Today, we say farewell to Garrison Duke, MBA, COO. Over the five years he has been with DIVERSEcity, his leadership, creativity and warmth have had a tremendously positive impact on our work, particularly with our Employment Programs and Skills Training Centre.     From helping grow our programs, funding and partnerships, to representing us at community events — including our own annual Black in BC celebration — we appreciate everything you have contributed to DIVERSEcity and the social services sector.     From all of us at DIVERSEcity, we wish you the best as you take the next steps in your career and leadership journey.      Please stay in touch and come back to visit at our upcoming events!

Our DIVERSEcity staff came together to make a meaningful impact on our environment last Thursday with a street clean up at Frank Hurt Park on 76 Avenue, just down the road from our Surrey Community Campus! We’re proud to share we collected 20 bags full of litter! Thank you to the City of Surrey for partnering with us, and a special thank you to all our staff who joined forces to help care for our community and nurture a healthier environment. Happy #WorldHumanitarianDay! There are so many humanitarians who work in the non-profit sector, including at DIVERSEcity and our partner organizations. At DIVERSEcity’s Awards of Impact 2023 last September, we had the pleasure of recognizing one with our Humanitarian Heart Award. Atania Kharma, a Surrey-based youth outreach worker originally from Syria, who selflessly supports Syrian newcomers in her community. “Giving back is in my core value and I believe it’s my responsibility to make a positive impact in my community and the people around me. [It is] not just an obligation, but a source of fulfillment and purpose and a way to connect with my community,” said Atania at last year's awards ceremony. We cannot wait to celebrate this year’s recipient of the Humanitarian Heart Award and all 10 of our awards at the 2024 Awards of Impact on September 24, 2024.
