EPCOR prioritizes the sustainability of our operations and the communities we serve across North America. That means constantly improving the way we work and the materials we work with. After a particularly harsh winter, Water Network Operators Mike (pictured), Calvin and their colleagues noticed a big spike in issues with the ground sinking in the areas where they backfilled after water main and other repairs. They got to work testing, and ultimately rolling out, a new material made of recycled concrete and asphalt. The result was not only a more reliable filling material but one that helps keep operating costs low, has diverted material from the landfill and reduced disruption to streets and neighbourhoods. Way to go, Mike, Calvin and team!

EPCOR and Boyle Street Community Services have been neighbours and partners for over 10 years, and we have seen firsthand the tremendous difference that Boyle Street makes in the lives of our community members who are struggling with poverty and homelessness.   Today, we announced that EPCOR is providing $250,000 in matching funds towards Boyle Street's Legacy Campaign, which will raise money for programming support and building operations at the soon-to-be-open King Thunderbird Centre.   From now until mid-October, any donations from our community members will be matched by EPCOR up to $250,000. Thank you to the Enoch Cree Nation for inviting us to join their annual Powwow this past weekend and welcoming us to share in the sacred ceremony and celebration. Sponsoring the Nippi Specials/Water Specials, honouring dancers in the intertribal dance and participating in the Grand Entry, all created a lasting impression and fond memories for our team. Providing a Glass of the Sask water tank to make sure everyone stayed cool and hydrated was also important on such a nice weekend. Congratulations to the dancers, who all displayed incredible energy and talent. EPCOR deeply values the perspectives and traditions of Indigenous Peoples, and the Powwow is another example of how we can be present and learn.

On July 10, we celebrate National Lineworker Appreciation Day and recognize our skilled electrical workers. These dedicated technical experts are out in our communities, no matter the conditions, to maintain our complex electrical system and keep power safely flowing. A huge thank you to our lineworkers for all they do!

The majesty of Átl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound — a massive inlet that runs north and east of Vancouver — hits you square in the chest. It feels like the entire planet is one glittering gemstone. Unfortunately, for much of the last century, Howe Sound was being poisoned by runoff from the Britannia copper mine, which operated from 1904 to 1974. This is where EPCOR saw an opportunity to make a difference. We won a competition in 2004 and began to gather and treat the water that flowed through the site. Since our operation at Britannia Mine began, aquatic life has returned to Howe Sound, including myriad varieties of fish, squid, crab, mussels, plankton, as well as sea lions, seals, orcas, bluefin and humpback whales and dolphins. Today, EPCOR was again named one of the #CKBest50 Corporate Citizens in Canada by Corporate Knights — an honour we have received annually since 2018. It's a testament to the progress and results we're seeing in areas like wastewater reuse; protecting utility assets from the impacts of climate change; building a safe, healthy and diverse workforce; and more.   Thank you to Corporate Knights for recognizing our commitment to the sustainability of our operations across North America.   Learn more about our sustainability journey at epcor.com

And since Best 50's inception in 2002, the stock prices of publicly listed companies on the Best 50 have outperformed the S&P/TSX Composite Index by 80%. Now in its 23rd year, the Best 50 helps track how Canadian businesses are meeting the low-carbon and green-transition challenge – as well as where they’re getting stuck in the process. As we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day and Indigenous History Month, we reflect on our commitment to build strong and lasting relationships with Indigenous Peoples. In May, we were honoured to host 40 elected officials, Elders and community members from 15 First Nations and Métis communities in a leader-to-leader meeting with EPCOR’s President & CEO and leadership. This was the first time EPCOR’s leadership and Indigenous Nation and community leaders came together in such a large gathering. We learned from and listened to these Indigenous community representatives, including Chiefs, Councillors, Métis elected officials, and consultation staff, who offered us feedback, shared priorities and exchanged information on EPCOR’s approach to Indigenous relations and initiatives. #NIHM2024 #NIPD2024
