The proposed Bill C-365, known as the Act respecting the implementation of a consumer-led banking system, is ushering in an exciting era of banking competition in Canada. Championed by Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams, this legislation recently passed its second reading in the House of Commons, signaling a move towards a more open and competitive banking sector. At the heart of Bill C-365 is the empowerment of Canadian consumers. The bill aims to break the current oligopoly held by a handful of major banks, offering Canadians the freedom to choose where and how their financial data is used. This change is poised to make banking more efficient and cost-effective for consumers, aligning Canada with successful models already in place in countries like Australia and the UK. The bill proposes to mandate banks to share financial data at the customer's request, allowing for easier transitions between financial institutions and better integration with financial management tools like Intuit or QuickBooks. This shift not only promises enhanced convenience but also notable financial savings for Canadian consumers. The next phase for Bill C-365 involves a detailed review by the Standing Committee on Finance. This committee will examine the bill closely, considering expert testimony and insights from FinTech companies on the advantages of a consumer-led banking system for Canadians. #innovation #openbanking #cdnpoli

You can’t disagree with Andrew Graham being called an iconic figure in FinTech in Canada. For a decade he has been a relentless and generous voice for the ecosystem, not the least of which has been his success as a FinTech founder. Both take perseverance but the FinTech takes a lot more. Thanks for allowing me to host this chat Andrew and Alex Vronces!
