Good mines monitor and assess the water quality in local communities. We monitor the quality of the water in surrounding rivers and the health of the aquatic ecosystem around Cobre Panama. This is done by 40 real-time monitored CCTV cameras in the operation’s surrounding areas. Additionally, Cobre Panama has more than 260 water quality control points surrounding the area. When we see good mines, they don’t harm local water supplies. #water #environment #mining

Good miners make the most of their operations. We build and operate our mines. It's one of the things that makes us stand out in our field. It means that we can learn how to build better with every mine we operate, and we constantly innovate to become more efficient. When we see good mines, they are built and operated by experts. #mining #minerals #innovation

Good mines extract the building blocks of the future. 700 million tonnes of copper have been mined over the entire course of human history to date. To reach global net zero goals, the mining industry needs to provide another 1.4 billion tonnes of copper by 2050. That is twice the total copper mined to date. We are working towards this goal and doing it as sustainably as we can. When we see good mines, they contribute to the global journey to net zero. #copper #netzero #mining

Good mines take care of nearby wildlife. We are committed to increasing the level of care we are giving to the wildlife surrounding our areas. We support projects promoting biodiversity, such as the Sea Turtle conservancy, The Peregrine Fund and West Lunga National Park. Our conservation efforts include rescue and release programs, law enforcement, and awareness initiatives in schools. When we see good mines, we see healthy wildlife. #wildlife #biodiversity #mining

Good mines are mindful of emissions. We prioritize the use of renewable energy sources for new and existing operations where they are achievable. Last year, we signed a deal with the Zambian state utility company ZESCO, to ensure 100% renewable power for Trident and Kansanshi. In the coming years this deal will extend to ensure that all our electricity in Zambia comes from renewable sources. When we see good mines, they are supporting the move towards global decarbonisation. #decarbonisation #mining #emissions

𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲-𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤. We are partnering up with Hitachi Construction Machinery and trialing a fully electric dump truck at our Kansanshi mine. The world needs copper in the energy transition to a lower carbon, renewably powered, electric future. This copper needs to be mined responsibly, part of which means reducing the emissions created in producing copper. Electrifying mining machinery is part of this but is a real technical challenge. This trial is part of moving us and our industry forward in reducing emissions. #Mining #ESG #Climate #Transition

The S3 Expansion Project is the future of Kansanshi and is on track for completion in mid-2025. Two years ago, First Quantum approved the project following a commitment made by Zambia’s New Dawn administration to reform the mining sector and to establish a platform for more stable, durable and responsible mining in Zambia. “We are proud of the significant investment - US$800M - that we are making in S3 during the Diamond Jubilee year, and the value that this growth will bring to our surrounding communities, our local suppliers, our work force and the people of Zambia more broadly.” Tristan Pascall, CEO of First Quantum. Good mines don’t cause lasting deforestation. There are 142 000 hectares of National Forest Reserve surrounding the Trident area. As part of our co-management of this area, we ensure that we plant more trees in the National Forest than we remove for the mine. In Zambia, we’ve planted over 60 000 seedlings ensuring the forest around our mine stays healthy. When we see good mines, they look after natural areas. #biodiversity #mining #conservation
