Empowering our community to advance gender-equity and youth leadership in decision-making spaces globally.

About us

Empowering our community to advance gender-equity in decision-making spaces globally. We deliver programs and opportunities that prepare the next generation of leaders to amplify their voices in decision-making spaces! Since 2009, Fora (formerly G(irls)20), has been investing in young changemakers experiencing gender-based discrimination, and working to make decision-making spaces more inclusive and equitable. Through renowned leadership, advocacy, and community-building programs, we help young trailblazers gain new skills, confidence, supportive networks and opportunities to build gender equity movements, advance in their career trajectories, and change the status quo. These young leaders aren’t waiting on the sidelines for their moment to make their impact on the world – they are already making change. Were there to help them do it. Today, Fora is celebrating International Youth Day: a day to highlight the issues youth are navigating, and also to recognize their incredible potential. We know better than anyone the incredible impact young leaders can have in their communities. Still, women and gender-marginalized youth engaged in our programs and communities navigate unique and specific barriers that make accessing the spaces where they can drive lasting change and access career and economic opportunities especially difficult. We also know that our future — and a more equitable world for all of us — is shared with the young leaders working to bring innovative solutions to the issues they and their communities are experiencing. At a time when we’re navigating simultaneous, mounting crises nationally and around the world, it’s more important than ever that we embrace youth leadership and support them in accessing the spaces of power where they can drive lasting change. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating International Youth Day today by making a gift to invest in more young leaders at foranetwork.org/donate (link in bio).

🎓 What if you weren’t allowed to get an education? Meet Sana Askari, one of Fora's 2022 Global delegates. Only one month before our 2022 Global Summit Delegates gathered in Toronto for our in-person training, there was an attack inside the Kaaj Educational Center in West Kabul, Afghanistan. The attack, which came alongside the suspension of women’s rights to attend university in the country, killed over 35 girls* and young women belonging to the Hazara community — the Indigenous-Afghani community that Sana is a part of. Sana arrived in Toronto ready to learn how to leverage her skills and gain new tools and resources to advocate for a better future — not just for herself but especially for her community. In November 2022, fuelled by the fire and skills that Fora's Global Summit program ignited in her, Sana returned to her home country to continue the intense work of advocacy. With the new skills Sana gained through the Global Summit program, Sana grew her social impact initiative, Esheel, which provides Hazara Afghan women with gainful employment and income as they utilize their handiwork skills in making hand embroideries. Today, Sana is not only advocating for the rights of women in Afghanistan – she’s creating opportunities for members of her Hazara community to access economic opportunities as well. But what would have happened if she had not received the resources and tools she developed during our months of Summit training and support? While we cannot deny that the young people in our programs are already exceptional young leaders, we are certain of the IMPACT that our programs have in ensuring their voices are taken seriously and championed. Fora's 2022 Global Summit program was 100% community-funded — and it’s that support which allowed us to help Sana. When you invest in Fora, you directly invest in young leaders and their social impact work around the world — and we need your support to keep going. We're incredibly grateful to Vena Solutions for providing us with their space for our mid-year annual planning. Our team had a fantastic day ideating, collaborating, and planning for the future. We were joined by members of our Board, as well as former alumn, and were deeply inspired by the stories and insights from some of our Rise on Boards & Global Summit alumni. Their experiences remind us of the power of what can happen when you invest in young leaders — and the importance of including and nurturing their voices in decision-making spaces. Here’s to an exciting few months ahead at Fora with our incredible team (and network)!

"Many would argue that we have achieved gender equity within Canada, and yet, study after study shows us this isn’t the case.” In her latest article, Fora: Network for Change's Chief Executive Officer, Emma Asiedu-Akrofi reflects on how, when it comes to senior leadership positions, women* in Canada are still being left behind. At Fora, we're working to change that on both an individual and systemic level. Emma shares: “Major changes must be implemented by organizations across sectors to offer fair compensation, mentorship opportunities & mental health supports, alongside realistic role expectations.” By delivering top-tier training, networking, and leadership opportunities that address the social and economic challenges young women and gender-marginalized youth face in local and international communities, Fora is aiming to empower the next generation of changemakers, while also addressing the barriers to leadership they continue to face. ✏️ For more, read Emma's full article here: https://loom.ly/gHf6EIY ✨ And if you believe in the importance of this work as much as we do, please consider making a gift to support us: https://loom.ly/RU-pJuU *Note: In this article, we refer to "young women" when referencing Canadian data - recognizing that this data does not accurately reflect all those navigating gender-based barriers, including trans and non-binary leaders who are often left out of the conversation.
