Empowering our community to advance gender-equity and youth leadership in decision-making spaces globally.

About us

Empowering our community to advance gender-equity in decision-making spaces globally. We deliver programs and opportunities that prepare the next generation of leaders to amplify their voices in decision-making spaces! Since 2009, Fora (formerly G(irls)20), has been investing in young changemakers experiencing gender-based discrimination, and working to make decision-making spaces more inclusive and equitable. Through renowned leadership, advocacy, and community-building programs, we help young trailblazers gain new skills, confidence, supportive networks and opportunities to build gender equity movements, advance in their career trajectories, and change the status quo. These young leaders aren’t waiting on the sidelines for their moment to make their impact on the world – they are already making change. Were there to help them do it. We wanted to take a moment this morning and give a big Fora thank you to our friends at Ontario Trillium Foundation for their essential support of our work! Ontario Trillium Foundation is helping us move the needle forward on gender equity and youth leadership, by investing in the long-term sustainability of our programming across Canada through an investment of $200,000 over 2-years. Thank you — for believing in the next generation of leaders as much as we do. 💐

"Many would argue that we have achieved gender equity within Canada, and yet, study after study shows us this isn’t the case.” In her latest article, Fora: Network for Change's Chief Executive Officer, Emma Asiedu-Akrofi reflects on how, when it comes to senior leadership positions, women* in Canada are still being left behind. At Fora, we're working to change that on both an individual and systemic level. Emma shares: “Major changes must be implemented by organizations across sectors to offer fair compensation, mentorship opportunities & mental health supports, alongside realistic role expectations.” By delivering top-tier training, networking, and leadership opportunities that address the social and economic challenges young women and gender-marginalized youth face in local and international communities, Fora is aiming to empower the next generation of changemakers, while also addressing the barriers to leadership they continue to face. ✏️ For more, read Emma's full article here: https://loom.ly/gHf6EIY ✨ And if you believe in the importance of this work as much as we do, please consider making a gift to support us: https://loom.ly/RU-pJuU *Note: In this article, we refer to "young women" when referencing Canadian data - recognizing that this data does not accurately reflect all those navigating gender-based barriers, including trans and non-binary leaders who are often left out of the conversation.

Language is a part of how we shape behaviour in our society — and what we normalize as acceptable. For queer folks, language can also either be deeply affirming or extremely harmful. So what can it mean — and how does it impact folks who hold 2SLGBTQIA+ identities, both inside and outside organizations? This Pride Month, our latest blog post reflects on how our organizational practices can truly embody allyship year-round, with language as just one tool for belonging. Explore our full insights in our blog — and to all those celebrating — #HappyPride! 🌈 https://lnkd.in/eM_uqwwq

With pride celebrations taking place all summer long across the country, we're thinking about the ways gender equity & queer rights are inherently intertwined — and the responsibility everyone in the gender-equity space has in being an ally to 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals year-round. As a youth & gender-equity organization that centres feminist values, here's what we know to be true. “We know that diversity in leadership offers many benefits, including more innovation, stronger collaboration opportunities, improved organizational self-reflection, enhanced retention, and skill development,” Fora: Network for Change's Chief Executive Officer, Emma Asiedu-Akrofi shares in her latest article. And yet, young women and everyone marginalized by their gender continue to face systemic barriers to leadership across sectors. Emma shares that: “Major changes must be implemented by organizations across sectors to offer fair compensation, mentorship opportunities & mental health supports, alongside realistic role expectations.” Through programs like Rise on Boards and the Global Summit, and through advocacy and research, Fora is working to empower the next generation of changemakers, while also addressing the systemic barriers to leadership they continue to face. ✏️ For more, read Emma's full article here: https://loom.ly/gHf6EIY *Note: In this article, we refer to "young women" when referencing Canadian data - recognizing that this data does not accurately reflect all those navigating gender-based barriers, including trans and non-binary leaders who are often left out of the conversation.

What does Canada's Federal Budget mean for young people navigating gender-based barriers? Taking a close look at the Federal Budget is important because it signals the government’s priorities for the next year (and sometimes, even beyond that). Through the lens of our youth-informed Young Feminist Economy Report, Fora’s Advocacy Manager, Tehreem, did a detailed analysis on what’s being funded (and what’s missing). While there are many gains made through direct investments to support young leaders, the Federal Budget needs to continue to make meaningful feminist advancements across economic sectors to empower the agency, autonomy, and leadership of young women and everyone navigating gender-based barriers in Canada.
