Birth should be a beginning not an ending. Join us on the journey of discovering why every life is precious. 🇸🇱🇨🇦

About us

At Freedom Tree, we are a group of perpetual optimists who believe that every life is precious. This statement must be true globally, or it is not true locally. Right now in the developing world, 'every life is precious' cannot be expressed without your participation. We consider it a tragedy that at the point of life, child, mother, and newborn are at most risk. Birth should be a beginning, not an ending, and we want you to be part of the birth story. We see a world where birth is the beginning of a life with purpose, not the tragic loss of great potential. We see a world where every life is precious.

I truly believe that our greatest strength lies within, waiting to be unleashed. It’s all too easy to overlook the power we possess, especially when faced with challenges or setbacks. But in truth, we hold the key to unlock endless possibilities and shape our own destinies. Here are some actionable steps to reclaim your power and ignite positive change: 1. Self-Reflection: Take a moment to reflect on your strengths, talents, and past achievements. Recognize the inherent power within you and acknowledge the potential to create meaningful impact. 2. Mindset Shift: Challenge any limiting beliefs or self-doubt holding you back. Shift your mindset from one of scarcity to abundance, believing in your capacity to effect change and make a difference. 3. Empower Others: Extend a helping hand to those around you, uplifting and empowering others to recognize their own strengths and capabilities. Through collective empowerment, we amplify our impact and create a ripple effect of positive change. 4. Take Action: Don’t underestimate the power of small actions. Take proactive steps towards your goals, whether it’s pursuing a passion project, advocating for a cause you believe in, or standing up for what’s right. 5. Share your favourite Freedom Tree story with us! 💫 One of mine takes me back to the village of Bomborhun in the Kailahun district. The first time I visited, the children greeted us with sadness in their eyes. The road leading to the village was so rough that vehicles couldn’t pass, and motorbikes were their only mode of transportation. When they spotted our vehicle, some of them ran away in fear, believing thieves were approaching. We couldn’t help but chuckle at the misunderstanding. But oh, how things have changed! Today, those same children eagerly approach our vehicle, ready to play and interact with us. It’s a heartwarming transformation that speaks volumes about the impact of our work. I hope that Freedom Tree will continue to help more children in dire need. So many children are out in the streets. Some have no parents, as they may have died. I hope to see more children going to school and well cared for. And as we reflect on the changes we’ve witnessed, let’s also consider the future. What do you hope to see change? At Freedom Tree, we’re dedicated to helping more children in need, ensuring they have access to education and support. Together, we can make a difference, one child at a time. #FreedomTreeStories #HopeForTheFuture #ImpactInAction

Lives are truly being transformed in Sierra Leone, and the impact is palpable. We’re witnessing a significant decline in maternal mortality rates. Fewer women are dying during childbirth, marking a pivotal shift in healthcare outcomes. But it’s not just the statistics that are changing – mindsets are shifting too. Local communities are beginning to challenge the notion of maternal mortality as an inevitable norm. Instead, there’s a growing recognition that it’s a community-wide issue that requires collective action. Men, in particular, are realizing their role in this movement. They understand that maternal health isn’t solely a women’s concern but affects the entire community. This newfound awareness is sparking conversations and driving positive change at the grassroots level. The impact of our work extends beyond healthcare. In villages where we’ve built birthing clinics and schools, we’re witnessing transformative changes. These community infrastructures are not just buildings; they’re symbols of hope and progress, fostering a sense of empowerment and resilience. Central to our success is our partnership with local Sierra Leoneans. We’re not imposing external agendas but empowering communities to identify their own challenges and develop sustainable solutions. It’s a collaborative approach that fosters ownership and drives lasting change from within. As we look to the future, our vision is bold yet hopeful. We envision Freedom Tree reaching every village in Sierra Leone, continuing to drive significant reductions in maternal and infant mortality rates. We’re paving the way for a brighter, healthier tomorrow. Join us on this journey of transformation! #FreedomTreeImpact #Empowerment #CommunityDevelopment

Education is at the heart of everything we do at Freedom Tree. One of our Nurse volunteers’ most profound experiences was during a medical clinic in a rural village, where hundreds of people eagerly awaited medical assistance. Amidst the hustle and bustle, our team facilitated health education sessions, covering vital topics like nutrition, hand washing, healthy pregnancy and birth, warning signs during pregnancy and birth, infant CPR/safety, and breastfeeding. Despite language barriers, we connected with the community through translators, ensuring the information reached everyone, from English to Creole to Mende. The response was overwhelming – the women were engaged, interactive, and immensely grateful for the knowledge shared. In that moment, the nurse could see that education was not just a component of our work; it was the cornerstone of our mission. By empowering individuals with the knowledge to care for themselves and prevent illness and death, she realized the profound impact education could have on entire communities. That's why education is one of our "Five Pillars" at Freedom Tree. Through education, we're not only saving lives but also empowering individuals to create healthier, brighter futures for themselves and their families. Join us in making a difference through education. We can create lasting change. 💖 #EducationForAll #Empowerment #FreedomTreeImpact 🌳
