We had the pleasure today of seeing Ravjot, a GrantMe student giving back to the community by sharing her story with our community. Success is earned and she’s definitely worked for it. Congratulations, Ravjot!
It is always a little disconcerting to look back at my journey over the past five years and how much I've managed to grow on a personal level. I recently joined GrantMe as a Student Ambassador - a role that allows me to chat with students from around Canada about their aspirations for post-secondary, how they plan to get there, and share my insights on the process. This always makes me nostalgic and a little sentimental about the journey that I started on in 2019. Growing up in countries like Nigeria and Ethiopia, 10-year-old me never thought I'd be coming to Canada, let alone studying at one of the top universities in the nation. Back in grade eight, I knew that I wanted to pursue post-secondary education at a good university and secure funds to help offset the cost through scholarships, but knowing how to get there was a different matter. Facing the aftereffects of relocation made the whole process a lot more difficult. If anyone told me I was going to navigate high-school with flying colors, be at the top of my graduating class, get admitted into the most competitive programs in the country, and win over two-hundred thousand in scholarships, I would have thought that person was either the funniest or the craziest I'd ever met. However, I am grateful to share that I've been able to achieve all of this and so much more. Today, I had the incredible opportunity to share my insights and feedback those embarking on this journey - passing on the knowledge to the next group of students, through a webinar hosted by GrantMe and Arry Pandher. This offered me a chance to reflect on my progress and develop humility while acknowledging the contributions of all of my supporters. The most important lesson that I've gotten out of all of this is that consistent efforts always pay off in the end. I know that is most often easier said than done, but I hope that my high school years will help fuel my efforts as a student at the Smith School of Business at Queen's University and throughout my career. Thank you to all the mentors, educators, parents, friends, and professionals who support students everyday in working towards their goals and achieving their dreams.
