Introducing: Court Projects, a Vancouver Bandits initiative. Brought to you in collaboration with FortisBC, ISPARC - Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I·SPARC), and the Government of British Columbia, as well as various local partners. Court Projects aims to provide more outdoor courts, rims & nets across the province through sponsored construction. The focus is on revitalizing courts & hoops in need to enrich local basketball at the community level. 28 locations and counting have received new rims. Basketball has seen a rapid rise in popularity as one of Canada's most accessible sports. Through Court Projects we hope to unify players of all ages while limiting economic barriers for participation in basketball, and creating new community gathering places. Since 2022 we at Vancouver Bandits have hosted Bandits School Day Game where in 2022 we hosted 3,800 students from across the region and in 2023 increased the number of students to 4,500. It is the one game day our entire staff and volunteers at the Bandits are in full athletic gear, shorts and t-shirts if necessary as we serve as parking lot attendants, school liaisons, hot dog servers, security, and doing "whatever it takes"...and it is worth every moment for the experience the students are receiving. The goal behind the Bandits School Day Game is to welcome students from across the region with the "ultimate hall pass" who may have challenges with accessing professional sports and entertainment. What we created with Bandits School Day Game is an experience these students may never forgot, and common feedback we get from teachers and administrators is Bandits School Day Game is one of the most memorable experiences on the school year. As we look ahead to the 2024 Bandits School Day Game we look to organizations in the community who want to get behind this special moment for potentially 5,000 students from across the region.
