About us
APPLE Schools is an innovative school-focused health promotion initiative. It impacts the lives of more than 33,000 students annually in over 100 schools across Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and Ontario by improving their healthy eating, physical activity, and mental health habits. APPLE Schools is a recognized, award-winning organization. In 2019, 2023 and 2024, it was chosen as a global top 100 education innovation by HundrED, a non-profit from Finland, based on its ability to create scalable impact. In 2017, the organization was awarded the Board Award of Excellence from the Fort McMurray Public School district, and the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Friends of Education award from Northland School Division for successfully championing healthy schools. Most recently, APPLE Schools was honoured to receive the provincial ASBA Friends of Education award. The project is guided by the Board of Directors, of The APPLE Schools Foundation, which is a registered charitable foundation.

We are incredibly honoured and grateful to share that APPLE Schools has been selected as one of the seven finalists for the Public Health Agency of Canada's Impact Canada Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Challenge. And the even more exciting news is that this recognition means APPLE Schools will be expanding to schools in Grande Prairie, Alberta for the first time! Our goal is to support four schools in this region to combat Type 2 diabetes among Canadian kids by providing the tools and resources needed to adopt healthy behaviours related to physical activity, healthy eating and positive mental well-being. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new journey as we continue our mission of supporting healthy kids in healthy schools!
The Public Health Agency of Canada announced the finalists for Impact Canada’s Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Challenge. Each finalist will receive a $600,000 prize to implement and generate evidence that their developed concept is effective in helping address the risks and barriers that lead to being at an elevated risk for type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases affecting people living in Canada. It affects approximately 3.7 million people, with more than 200,000 new cases diagnosed every year. The number of people living with diabetes is expected to continue to increase as Canada's population ages and grows. The Challenge will empower Canadian communities, providing them with tools and resources to learn and adopt healthy behaviours to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. https://ow.ly/WYQp50SAtTN
