We Are The Voice Of Indigenous Resource Workers
About us
We are workers. We are business owners. We are community members. We are proudly Indigenous. The Indigenous Resource Network was established in May 2020 to provide a platform for Indigenous workers, business owners and leaders who support Indigenous engagement in the resource sector. The Indigenous Resource Network supports responsible resource development when it is done to the highest environmental standards and benefits our people. We want to provide a more balanced and informed conversation about Indigenous involvement in resource development. We feel the public debate over resource development in Canada has become polarized and divisive. Yet the majority of people, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, want the same thing: to see environmentally responsible projects proceed with the consent and involvement of the communities most affected. The rise in U.S. tariffs on Canadian lumber is detrimental to the forestry industry and many Indigenous communities. This situation threatens jobs, local economies, and the sustainable management of resources. We must advocate for ending unfair trade practices surrounding lumber. In a significant $1B equity purchase agreement, TC Energy has partnered with an Indigenous-owned investment group to secure ownership in Canada’s largest natural gas pipeline network. This achievement results from a strong collaboration between the Government of Alberta, the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation, and a consortium representing Indigenous communities from Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. This highlights the desire of Indigenous Peoples to play a leading role in Canada’s energy future. It showcases what can be accomplished when Indigenous communities, government, and industry unite in partnership.
