In less than 2 weeks, there have been over 100 letters (that we are aware of) sent asking for $10/day child care for School Age children to become effective July 1, 2024. As per the Official Report (Hansard) from the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, we have learned that unfortunately, this cost savings for families will be delayed until later this year. This is not the outcome we had hoped for, as we know families are struggling to balance their own budgets. However, families and facilities can now plan accordingly. MCCA is anxious that an average of $10/day for all families in Manitoba will soon become a reality. Thank you for mobilizing Educators, facilities and families to share their voices. MCCA will be on CJOB this afternoon at 3:15 p.m.; tune in to catch the conversation!

Today is the National Day of Action on Child Care. In August 2021, Manitoba became the seventh jurisdiction to sign the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement. 28 months later, many investments have been made to begin the establishment of an accessible, affordable, inclusive, flexible, and high-quality child care system in our province. A new provincial government now at the helm is a perfect time to reflect on the current status of child care in Manitoba. What has worked? Where are the gaps? Many families have welcomed $10/day child care. Families are waiting for spaces. Wait-lists have grown tremendously at facilities. And to make this all work – we are still waiting for a comprehensive workforce strategy for Early Childhood Educators. Our hope is that our Provincial Government acts quickly to address the dual problem of long wait-lists and staff shortages. #makechildcareapriority #ECEsAreEssential #nationaldayofactiononchildcare #dotsforspots #cdnpoli

On August 17th, 2023 we reached out to all major parties inviting them to our upcoming Town Hall meeting. Subsequent follow ups were made (we know what a busy time this is) to ensure we had a variety of political platforms for attendees to consider. On Thursday September 14, 2023 you will meet the candidates below who will share their party’s platform and vision on the future of early learning and child care (ELCC) in Manitoba. Your vote matters. MCCA is non-partisan – we vote for a high-quality, affordable, accessible, and inclusive ELCC system. We want you to be informed when you go to the polls on October 3rd to ensure that child care is a priority now and in the future. #voteMBchildcare #childcarethetimeisNOW Link to register for the Town Hall. Registration is free. We have space available and invite all to attend: https://lnkd.in/gW8E7zRP

Affordable child care looks like this: a healthy workforce, better business, gender equality in the labour force, higher post-secondary enrolment, early educational experiences, and closing the income gap. #votembchildcare

Everyone depends on someone who depends on child care. Who do you depend on? We've all felt the effects of unreliable child care at some point or another - whether we have children or we don't. It can look like being short staffed at work, essential appointments cancelled, or missing a loved one during a big life event. Whatever the scenario, the people we've learned to rely on deserve a child care system THEY can depend on. #votembchildcare
