About us
Oxfam Canada works with partner organizations in developing countries; tackling the root causes of poverty and inequity and helping people to create self-reliant and sustainable communities. Oxfam’s vision is a just world without poverty. We envision a world in which people can influence decisions which affect their lives, enjoy their rights, and assume their responsibilities as full citizens of a world in which all human beings are valued and treated equally. Oxfam Canada’s mission is to build lasting solutions to poverty and injustice with a focus on improving the lives and promoting the rights of women and girls. Working with Canadians, our partners and allies around the world, we mobilize people and resources to change policies, practices, attitudes and behaviours that create inequality and human suffering. As we embrace #SecondHandSeptember, it’s time to rethink not just our wardrobes but also the ethics behind them. 🌎 🧥 Brands like Roots continue to hide poor working conditions and low wages in their supply chains. Did you know their CEO makes $276 an hour, while a Cambodian garment worker would need 17 years to earn the same? The gap is shocking. We’re calling on Roots to commit to living wages and transparency. Join Oxfam Canada’s What She Makes campaign and demand fairer practices today! 📖 Read more in our latest blog by our campaigner Mwangala Matakala: https://lnkd.in/eTCH3vCC #WhatSheMakes #FairFashion #EthicalFashion #RootsCanada

Our commitment to these values is unwavering, and we stand alongside communities striving for justice and equality both here in Canada and around the world. 🍉 In this spirit, we also express our solidarity with the people of Palestine who have faced relentless violence and death in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip in the last year. ✊🏽 Today, on World Humanitarian Day, Oxfam Canada stands in solidarity with humanitarian workers who risk their lives to provide life-saving aid and support to people affected by crises, conflict and disasters. 🕯️ DYK? This year is on track to be the DEADLIEST on record for humanitarian workers, with the United Nations reporting that 224 humanitarian aid workers have been killed in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since October 2023 – nearly 3x the death toll recorded in any single conflict in a year. 💚 To humanitarian workers everywhere, we see you and we thank you. #NotATarget #WHD2024 #WorldHumanitarianDay #Humanitarian

For the first time in history, the world’s largest economies have agreed to cooperate to tax the ultra-rich. On July 24, Oxfam and partners handed Brazilian Finance Minister Fernando Haddad petitions with over 1.5 million signatures from people across the world calling on G20 leaders to tax the ultra-rich. In response to the Rio de Janeiro G20 Ministerial Declaration on International Tax Cooperation published on July 25, Oxfam is pleased to see serious global progress. Finally, the richest people are being told they can’t game the tax system or avoid paying their fair share. “Now to the next step: at the G20 Summit in November this year, leaders need to go further than their finance ministers and back concrete coordination: agreeing on a new global standard that taxes the ultra-rich at a rate high enough to close the gap between them and the rest of us”. – Susana Ruiz, Tax Policy Lead, Oxfam International Read Oxfam’s full reaction to the Ministerial Declaration here: https://lnkd.in/egr5p8yf Oxfam Brasil Avaaz Patriotic Millionaires taxmenow 350.org Fight Inequality Alliance WeMove Europe
