🎉Ontario is transforming the Future of Skilled Trades across the province! 🛠 Yesterday morning, in partnership with Skills Council of Canada and the Peel District School Board, Judith Nyman Secondary School (JNSS) was selected to be the proud host of a landmark Ontario Government announcement. We were honored to welcome a distinguished group of speakers, including: 👉 Minister David Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development 👉 Minister Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education 👉 Associate Minister Hon. Charmaine Williams 👉 Patrice Barnes, Parliamentary Assistant 👉 Bradley L., CEO of Skills Council of Canada 👉 Melissa Young -Gray, CEO of Skilled Trades Ontario 👉 Sukhraj Singh Deid, Student, Judith Nyman Secondary School View Announcement - https://lnkd.in/e9KNjc8Y JNSS was specifically chosen by the Ministry for this significant event due to the incredible skilled trades learning environment offered at a secondary school boosting 17 state-of-the-art trade facilities in one building. Skills Council of Canada with the support from the PDSB's Director of Education Rashmi Swarup, have positioned JNSS as a leading example or blue print for how skilled trades education could look like. Thank you to the unwavering support from the school's leaders! Key Highlights: 🌟 New FAST Program: The introduction of the Focused Apprenticeship Skills Training (FAST) program allows students to engage in up to 80% of their coursework through co-op placements, directly in their trades of interest. 🚀 Empowering Initiatives: Several new measures were announced to support skilled trades education. Both Ministers highlighted the government's commitment under Premier Doug Ford to fill the looming gap in skilled trades. With an estimated 500,000 skilled trades jobs becoming vacant over the next decade, these initiatives are crucial. Yesterday's announcement not only marks a significant advancement in skilled trades education but also reinforces the value of partnerships, between educational institutions, industry leaders, employers, and government bodies as outlined by Brad Loiselle during his closing remarks. "Alone we can go fast, together we can go far" - African proverb We would also like to thank all the partners that joined us for this announcement.
