May is #AsianHeritageMonth. We sat down with three members of #teamlocal to talk about their Asian heritage, beloved traditions and share their stories of resilience and determination. "My grandparents were both in Canada when World War II started. They were part of the internment of Japanese Canadians. On my grandfather's side, their Pitt Meadows strawberry farm was seized and they were moved to the interior of BC. My grandmother's family had their fishing boats seized and she was moved to Tashme. They met during internment and after the war, they finally settled in Ashcroft. My grandparents started from nothing post war and became business owners. My grandfather was also a volunteer firefighter and became the Mayor of Ashcroft. They came out of internment to becoming highly contributing members of their community for many years." - Tyler Saito, MBA, CFP, CLU Director, Wealth Planning "In 1995, my family immigrated to Canada from the Philippines, bringing with us a vibrant culture rooted in warmth, hospitality and resilience. I cherish our traditions, which are centered around strong family ties, celebrations and lots of food. Every occasion and milestone deserves a celebration, so we are constantly celebrating! There is always music, dancing, eating and laughter. If you wonder why some Filipinos talk loudly, it's because that is our way of showing enthusiasm and excitement, and it helps ensure everyone is heard and included." - Ann Klatt, Senior Financial Analyst "I was born and raised in Hanoi, the hub of northern Vietnam. It's a country that may be geographically small but incredibly rich in traditions, cultures and history. From the vibrant festivals and colourful markets to the delicious cuisine and ancient traditions, there's never a dull moment. One of my most beloved Vietnamese traditions is the preparation for Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year. It's the most important holiday in Vietnam, bringing people together regardless of their religions and cultural backgrounds. During this festive time, families come together to decorate their homes with flowers and fruit, prepare special foods, and exchange gifts and red envelopes." - Lily Pham, Communications Specialist

We can't believe it's already been one week since the Surrey Vaisakhi Parade! Our team had a wonderful time and we're so thankful to everyone who said hello, posed for a photo and visited us during the day. We'd also like to extend an extra special shout out to our volunteers and the amazing team who helped make this celebration happen. We can't wait for next year!
