    Helping cleaning business owners thrive.

"OF COURSE", I said. Surprised that I hadn't heard that in 8 years talking to janitorial owners. When a client I spoke with started raving about Swept, I of course invited her to say more about why. And, 8 years into this, she said something so basic, and yet, so unique and important, this was my face. I expected to hear about saving or winning a contract, about improving quality, enhancing communications, or maybe even getting everyone accountable to each other but no. She hit me with a new, but what should have been unsurprising reason. "When we onboard new cleaners, they often come from other companies, and they always say that they never knew who their manager was, let alone ever hear from them. With Swept, they know that, see the team communications they are immediately part of, and every detail about the job that needs to be done - before they walk out the door." Yes, I've always known onboarding/training and support were essential byproducts of our system. But, to hear that this tool helped prove to a cleaner - immediately upon being hired - that THIS job was going to be different!? Wow.

Our mission is 1,000 smiling faces every Monday morning in the professional, financial, and medical office spaces that we clean in the Indian Valley.

This morning I got a call from a customer. Their building was found open this morning and the alarm was not set. The arriving employees were scared. A picture frame blew off the wall and broke. The office does not have cameras yet. They naturally called the cleaning service as we are the only known visitors to the office over the weekend. This was my Monday morning email and voice mail. We use a software called Swept Janitorial Software to manage our accounts with Carfagno Commercial Cleaning. The software allows each cleaner to clock in and out as a core function. It also has a messaging thread for every building we clean. Josh Melton taught me how to level up our service to do what Amazon does. Have you ever noticed that Amazon takes pictures of the delivered package. This protects Amazon and its drivers. Josh taught me to have all of our cleaners take pictures of the alarm being set and the door being locked. We implemented this over a year ago into C3 by utilizing the individual messaging threads in Swept. I am so thankful that we did. My first step was to acknowledge my customer so they knew I was looking into it. I acted quickly to collect information. I confirmed from our technology that our last employee in the building was at 8pm on Friday night. I saw the pictures of the door and alarm secured. I called the team member that cleaned and verified. I also called our supervisor to make sure he didn't make a last minute stop to fill up supplies and possibly forgot to lock the door on Sunday. I verified our supervisor was not there. I now had the information and the proof with timestamps that it was not C3. I called the customer and shared the facts. They were relieved and are currently figuring out who entered the building on Sunday afternoon or night. I am thankful to my coach Josh, to Swept for their technology tool, and our team members at C3 who care so much for the buildings we clean! In the end, this protocol in the company just gave our customer tremendous confidence in the cleaning service they chose!

So much learning Startupfest last week! A lot of meaningful content, despite being later stage than many of the participants. There were some excellent workshops, the BDC WiT Bootcamp was a great chance to connect with other #womenintech and I was grateful for the connections and the content. One presenter dropped some advice on hiring that I can't help but share. Not because it was good, but because I think it wasn't. The advice was about your first hires. Her advice was "you are young (she wasn't talking to me), go find other young people who will work for less and figure it out together." 😕 When you have limited resources and runway to prove your idea and are using investors dollars to make it happen, I think you have a responsibility to give your idea its best chance to be successful. That takes building a team that will rally around the mission, where cohesion and connection can happen quickly, and egos are checked in service of the common goal. My experience is that when you have a team that is diverse and inclusive, the chances of this happening organically goes up significantly. Couldn't let that one sit.......building teams is one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of the job. I thought another perspective at least deserved some air 😃 Finally, being surrounded by people full of hope is energizing on all levels. A reminder to my "remote workers" tribe to find ways to stay inspired, energized and connected. #leadership #remotework

💡 Have you ever stepped back and looked at what keeps you busy and asked yourself, “How does this make my business better?” Any customer centric organization will hit a crossroads where all the “paper cuts” from trying to please everyone will threaten your ability to grow. 🤔 I encourage you to take a few minutes to step back from the “bus(y)ness” and ask some hard questions about what you and your team are up to. Is pleasing everyone turning into busy work that adds real value? Is it worth trading off what truly makes you unique and special in the market? Consider the difference between a strategic change in focus and distractions that throw you off course. 🤩 What makes you unique is how you stand out in a crowd, It's how the people looking for you find you. Sometimes in Janitorial it might seem hard to stand out, but we see customers who do it every day. Create the space and focus on what really matters.
