Seven Taskforce Kiwi volunteers have travelled all the way from New Zealand to Jasper, Alberta, to join forces with Team Rubicon Canada Greyshirts. We extend a warm welcome to our neighbours as we bolster our efforts to support Jasperites in the ongoing wildfire recovery. This collaboration has deep roots—our Greyshirts first deployed to assist Taskforce Kiwi after Cyclone Gabrielle, and they later returned the favour by supporting us during the Tantallon wildfire operation in Nova Scotia. With disaster seasons offset in different hemispheres, we’ve established a resilient partnership that ensures we can respond swiftly and effectively whenever and wherever we’re needed most. We’re grateful for their expertise and dedication as we work together to make a meaningful impact in the Jasper community. As Wave 1 of our Greyshirts get to work in Jasper, stories of hope and resilience are already unfolding. One of the first is from Andrew and Ann Thomas, who built their home in Jasper in 1980. Faced with the unimaginable as they returned to the remains of their home, our Greyshirts stepped in, sifting through the rubble to recover cherished items, including a wedding ring—small but powerful symbols of their enduring love and commitment to the place they call home. Though temporarily relocated, Andrew and Ann are determined to return to Jasper, holding on to the memories and the community that mean so much to them. Their story is a testament to the strength of the community and the importance of standing together during this challenging time. Greyshirts Arrive in Jasper to Begin Recovery Operations As Jasper begins its journey toward recovery after the devastating summer wildfires, Team Rubicon Canada is on the ground, ready to serve. This weekend, our first wave of Greyshirts—veterans, first responders, and skilled civilians—are deploying from across the country to be there for Jasperites. Our mission is more than just physical recovery; it’s about restoring hope. Greyshirts will be meticulously sifting through the ashes of homes, searching for treasured belongings that can bring a sense of comfort and closure to those affected. This isn’t just about finding objects—it’s about reconnecting families with the memories that make a house a home. As we close the final chapter of our Mission Possible campaign, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. Your hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our mission have made a profound impact. Thanks to your incredible efforts, we have successfully raised over $345,000 to support our disaster relief initiatives. This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the countless hours you spent reaching out to your networks, sharing stories, and inspiring others to contribute. You’ve helped us make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable communities across Canada. This campaign has shown us what’s possible when we come together with a shared purpose. The impact of your work will be felt far beyond today, as we continue to support communities in their time of need. #DisasterRecovery #Humanitarian #Community #HelpingHands #MakeADifference #SocialImpact #Charity #Donate #Fundraising

Responding: Jasper Wildfire As a member of the Humanitarian Workforce program, Team Rubicon Canada is on the ground in Jasper, working with the Province of Alberta and the Municipality of Jasper to begin sifting operations on August 23. Our charitable service is at no cost to residents and is available to those who have lost their property to wildfires. A vital component of the recovery process, our Greyshirt volunteers will meticulously sift through the ash and rubble of destroyed homes, working closely with residents to recover personal effects and reunite them with cherished items. This technical process helps to bring some closure and hope to residents navigating incredible loss. Greyshirts from across Canada are deploying to lead these critical recovery operations, uniting in service as Jasper begins the challenging journey to rebuild and recover. #DisasterRecovery #SocialImpact #HelpingHands #MakeADifference #Wildfire #Alberta #Jasper #Wildfires #ABFire #Community

After the wildfire was through Jasper, the fire department lowered all flags around the town to half mast. Last night, a flag raising ceremony was held at the Legion. About 100 people were there for the impromptu ceremony. The President of the Jasper Legion lead it, stating that the raising of the flag signalled that Jasperites were back, and that the community will rebuild. Team Rubicon Canada Greyshirts were honoured to have been invited to attend. #JasperStrong #humbling #CanadianLegion

This World Humanitarian Day, we honour the relentless spirit of our Greyshirts and all those who stand ready to serve. As we've seen in Jasper, the need for our services has never been greater—disasters are intensifying, and too many communities are at risk of being left behind. Our Greyshirts don’t just answer the call; they own it. No matter the sweat, no matter the hardship, no matter the mission, no matter what. Driven by Team Rubicon’s vision to support humanity and build resiliency for vulnerable populations, we remain steadfast in our commitment to those in need. But we can’t do it alone. We need more humanitarians ready to step into the arena and more people willing to go where others won’t. The stakes have never been higher, and the time to act is now. Join us, and together, we'll continue to lift up communities in crisis. https://lnkd.in/gK5J_Rz #WorldHumanitarianDay #DisasterRecovery #DisasterRelief #Humanitarian #Community #HelpingHands #MakeADifference #SocialImpact #Volunteer #Volunteering #ActForHumanity
