Improving the lives of amputees by providing essential funding for artificial limbs and advocacy for amputees' rights.
About us
A philosophy of “amputees helping amputees” has been the hallmark of The War Amps since its creation by amputee veterans in 1918. Since then, our programs have grown from assisting war amputees to all Canadian amputees, including children. Our Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, which is unique in the world, offers comprehensive services to child amputees and their families, including financial assistance, advocacy and peer support. We also provide resources for adult amputees, and our historic work for veterans continues to the present day. The Key Tag Service was established in 1946 to create jobs for amputee veterans returning home from war and to provide Canadians with a valuable key return service. Donations from the public to the Key Tag Service fund our many programs – we do not receive government grants. Since its creation, the Key Tag Service sheltered workshop in Ontario has employed hundreds of people with disabilities, and we continue to employ people with disabilities here and throughout our organization.

Your Story 💬 "These are my favourite set of keys because the fob is light. I carry these to walk my dogs or drop off and pick up items within my high rise. My backup keys are heavy and bulky. Well, I placed these in the breast pocket of my denim jacket on a warm day, removed the jacket and carried it on my arm. They must have fallen out (over six weeks ago). I thought they were gone for good. I got a surprise Purolator package in the mail yesterday. God is Good. Thank you, War Amp!" » — Nav

Megan recently laid a wreath on behalf of The War Amps at the “C” Force Memorial Wall to mark the 79th anniversary of the end of fighting in the Far East during the Second World War. The ceremony honoured the 1,975 Canadians who fought bravely in Hong Kong, including those who were taken prisoner by the Japanese. The event was the first ceremony to take place since there are no longer any surviving Hong Kong veterans, and served as a touching moment to continue honouring and preserving their courage. #WarAmps #VJDay #RememberThem #HongKongVeterans

» Visionner ici : https://lnkd.in/eg3jhGzD #PolQc #RAMQ #Quebec

A Quebec amputee is left without provincial coverage for a medically prescribed prosthesis following a denial by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ), a decision which was recently upheld by the Tribunal Administratif du Quebec (TAQ). In an interview with CJAD 800 Montreal, The War Amps Quebec Director Louis Bourassa expressed our disappointment in the tribunal’s decision in this case: “Samuel needs a myoelectric prosthesis, but it was denied because it was not on RAMQ’s coverage list. We strongly believe this is human rights discrimination based on disability.” 🔈 Listen now → https://lnkd.in/e9jxhGM7 #WarAmps #CDNPoli #QCPoli #Quebec #RAMQ
