This summer, we were fortunate to collaborate with Waza Home Comfort on a second round of the mentor shadowing program. Participants of The Redwood’s Women in Trades: HVAC Technician program accompanied Waza’s talented technicians through their workdays as they provided exceptional HVAC services to the community. Thank you, Frank Mongillo for your support of our program and technicians, Polo, Liam and Sam for your mentorship! Swipe to read testimonials from participants who completed job-shadowing at Waza Home Comfort! ➡️ The Redwood’s Women in Trade: HVAC Technician program supports survivors of intimate-partner violence, domestic violence and gender-based violence in building safer lives by achieving financial independence – working in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (#HVAC) trade. 💛 Read more about the program here: https://lnkd.in/gpSGPYwS 💙

Helping women live and thrive without abuse and poverty.
About us
Since 1993, we've been here to help women and children live free from domestic violence. Free from fear. Free from threat. Leaving an abusive situation is one of the toughest things any woman or child has to face. The Redwood provides the emotional, practical and social support that families need to get their lives back on track – we offer free and confidential services in 170 different languages, including: -Programs that help children and youth rebuild their self-esteem, and break the cycle of violence through art and play therapy, counselling, and after-school tutoring. -On-going support to help women build confidence and self-reliance through employment readiness training, assistance in finding affordable housing, and opportunities to pursue post-secondary education. - Educational workshops at local schools, libraries, housing co-ops, churches, mosques, and other community gathering places.

The Redwood has long recognized that living in poverty can lead a survivor of gender-based violence to return to a dangerous situation. One way to keep women safer is to give them the tools they need to secure financial independence through a well-paid job that will allow them and their children to live in dignity. Women in Technology: IT Help Desk Technician joins our outstandingly successful Women in Trades: HVAC Technician. The program will provide survivors with tuition-free training and wraparound supports during their studies at George Brown College, followed by a paid internship, and assistance to secure employment. Our sincere appreciation goes to the Hon. Charmaine Williams, Associate Minister of the Province of Ontario’s Women's Social and Economic Opportunity program and George Brown College for their support of this life-changing project.
