In modest fashion, the comeback began. No headlines, no fireworks.   The starting point? A bath mat.   It had been there — by the tub, in front of the mirror, in her home — that Tracey Kerr embarked on her journey back to an active lifestyle, by running gently, oh so gently, on the spot. There was reason for caution. A decade earlier, Kerr had been involved in a devastating car crash.   “I was in and out of the hospital — probably a thousand times at least,” Kerr, from her home in Vancouver, says of the years following the 2005 accident. “But I was going to do everything humanly possible to be able to run again, then hopefully get back to triathlon. It was always on my mind.”   Learn about this Canadian Age Groupers Inspiring Comeback Tale #TriThis   https://lnkd.in/gGyv76gG     Tranquillement, le retour s’est amorcé.

As Team Canada makes its way back home from the 2024 Paralympic Games, that includes our very own Lisa Mensink who was one of six Canadian coaches taking part in Own The Podium Paralympic Global Coaches Conference as part of her professional development. In addition to supporting the Paratriathlon team on the ground in Paris, Lisa had “huge” learnings at the global conference working with international technical leaders, fellow coaches and even athletes including 🇨🇦 gold medallist, Greg Stewart, while immersed in the Paralympic environment. Congratulations Lisa!

It's never to late to #TriThis. Angela Hofstra Triathlon Ontario did her first triathlon in 2003, a try-a-tri. Between being freaked out in the water and the constraints of a young family she didn’t compete again until 2013, when she discovered duathlons, and raced in the sprint duathlon at ITU World Championships for the first time with the Canadian age group team in Aviles Spain in 2016. She has since completed her sixth appearance at World Championships with Team Canada in Townsville, Australia all because she was willing to #TriThis. On the eve of the Paralympic Games, Canada’s big three - Stefan Daniel Leanne Taylor Kamylle Frenette charge into Paris with a message much bigger than just medals…spreading the word to let parents and families know that Para sport is growing, that it provides opportunities.   And that is where Lisa Mensink comes in as Triathlon Canada's Para triathlon pathway coach.

Born with a condition called Unilateral Talipes Equinovarus, more commonly known as a unilateral clubfoot, Kamylle Frenette was admittedly obsessed with putting a label on herself ... “normal”, “abnormal”, “disabled”, etc. A wise coach once told Kamylle to stand a chance in a game of poker, “all you need is a chip and a chair.” In life, some people have more chips, some people have fewer chips, or chips of different colours, shapes and sizes. Her stack may be different, but she has chips, and para sports gave her a chair….along with amazing teammates, and competitors. One week removed from charging into her second Paralympic Games, Kamylle now understands her place in para sport and the power of her “little foot.” Everyone, no matter what chips they hold, should be allowed the opportunity to reach their peak potential. They should be given a chair at the table. Kamylle will confidently take her place in the Paralympic triathlon race alongside an inclusive community of athletes on the start line that gives her a place to enjoy her pursuit of high-performance sport while representing her country and sharing powerful lessons along the way. #EssayeDoncLeTriathlon
