This summer, TVO proudly hosted eight student leaders participating in the Toronto District School Board’s Black Student Summer Leadership Program (BSSLP). For the past four years, TVO has provided hands-on work experiences for these students to explore how their interests, academic backgrounds, and skills can pave the way for future success. TVO’s continued involvement in this program is part of the organization’s commitment to ensuring all Ontarians have equitable access to educational experiences, particularly those in underserviced or overlooked communities. 🎬That’s a wrap! 🎬 Today marks the end of an incredible journey as TVO wraps up its fourth-year hosting student leaders participating in the Toronto District School Board Black Student Summer Leadership Program (BSSLP). ✨ This week was nothing short of amazing: ✅ Our talented students had a behind-the-scenes look at the William G. Davis Studio, discovering the magic behind our in-house programs, including The Agenda With Steve Paikin. 🎥  ✅ They teamed up with TVO’s production pros, diving into a world of careers in media production they might not have explored otherwise. 🚀 ✅ They also got creative with the Know Brainers team  shooting their own YouTube video shorts. 🎬📹   ✅ And, of course, we wrapped it all up with a fantastic graduation ceremony and celebration led by our Program Ambassador Cathy Jung GPHR and with a special visit from Polkaroo! 🎓 🌟 We can’t wait to partner with the Toronto District School Board Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement again next year to continue to inspire and empower the next generation of young Black leaders. Stay tuned for perspectives from our student leaders about their unforgettable experience at TVO! #WeAreTVO #Leadership #BSSLP #StudentSuccess #MediaProduction #FutureLeaders #Graduation #CareerDevelopment #YouthEmpowerment #ProfessionalGrowth

🚀 From Vision to Execution: The Power of Pitching 🚀 This week, our inspiring student leaders in the Toronto District School Board Black Student Summer Leadership Program (BSSLP) took center stage to present their innovative ideas to the Executive team at TVO. 🌟 These young visionaries were tasked with pitching products aimed at solving everyday student challenges. They dove deep into design, strategy, storytelling, and delivering their concepts to the panel of judges. The outcome is no surprise. The TVO Executives were extremely impressed with the well-thought-out insights, details, and creative ideas included in each presentation. TVO recognizes the inequities in the education system for Black students and is committed to reducing barriers to learning and providing opportunities for them to thrive. The Toronto District School Board Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement fosters learning, improves agency, promotes activism, embraces community, encourages discovery, and inspires excellence in every participant through BSSLP.   Pitching is an important part of the BSSLP as it is opportunity for student leaders to develop essential 21st century workforce skills such as:    ✅ Communicating with confidence  ✅ Developing persuasion skills  ✅ Advocating for yourself   ✅ Showcasing leadership  ✅ Working collaboratively    Kudos to our student leaders for sharing your vision and for showing us the power of well-executed ideas.💡👏  #Leadership #Innovation #StudentSuccess #PitchPerfect #TDSBCE #BSSLP

On Tuesday, TVO Media Education Group hosted a special dedication ceremony to honour the significant impact of TVO’s former CEO and chair, Peter A. Herrndorf. During his tenure, Mr. Herrndorf brought incredible vision and innovation to TVO and was instrumental in introducing Studio 2, the first nightly current affairs series in TVO’s history. Mr. Herrndorf’s favourite place at TVO was the control room; he often referred to it as the “beating heart” of the place and said it was where the magic happened. During the intimate gathering of family, friends, former colleagues, and distinguished guests, TVO CEO Jeffrey Orridge recognized Mr. Herrndorf’s legacy by dedicating the TVO studio control room in his name. We were honoured to have Mr. Herrndorf’s wife, Eva Czigler and their children Katherine and Matthew Herrndorf in attendance along with the Honourable Bob Rae, Canada’s ambassador to the United Nations, who shared his personal memories of Mr. Herrndorf. Other notable guests include the Right Honourable David Johnston, and Isabel Bassett, former chair and CEO of TVO and Mr. Herrndorf’s successor. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gP4_AJdh *Edit: An earlier version of this post indicated that Mr. Herrndorf was instrumental in the development of The Agenda With Steve Paikin. This was incorrect, The Agenda With Steve Paikin was conceived after Mr. Herrndorf's tenure. The post has been corrected.

As National Indigenous History Month unfolds, my awareness broadens, and my appreciation deepens. At the end of last year, I had the privilege of providing consultation at the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) public hearing, alongside our esteemed COO, Jennifer Hinshelwood on behalf of TVO Media Education Group. During the hearing, we proudly endorsed proposals that supported a committed increase in Indigenous content on Canadian television because we believe in supporting initiatives like the Indigenous Screen Office Fund and broadcasters such as The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network. At TVO, our commitment to honoring the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across Canada extends beyond talk and is put into action. Something you may not know is that TVO engages Indigenous educators, Equity Specialists, and content creators in the development of our educational resources. Indigenous voices are honored, respected, and amplified across our programming and current affairs journalism. We engage Indigenous journalists, filmmakers, source story ideas from Indigenous contacts and experts, and ensure Indigenous voices are represented on topics that are relevant to the community and society at large. I am immensely proud of the strides we are making at TVO, and I look forward to continuing our work in amplifying Indigenous voices and perspectives across Canada's media landscape. On the eve of Indigenous Peoples Day, and as we continue to celebrate during National Indigenous History Month, I hope everyone will take the time to reflect and to honour and reaffirm our collective commitment to truth and reconciliation.

Here’s something you may not know about me. When I was with the CFL, I was the first commissioner of any major sports league in North America to march in a Pride parade. Some people would periodically ask why I was such a vocal advocate for the 2SLGBTQI+ community. I always thought the answer was obvious...obvious to anyone who has seen me. It’s obvious that I also belong to a historically marginalized community. I understand what it is like to be discriminated against solely based on how some perceive my differences. So, I make a point to be involved with the 2SLGBTQI+ community and use my voice to speak out when something needs to be said about equal rights. Human rights. When we celebrate Pride Month, we’re taking a stand for human rights. We’re saying that everyone should be treated with the same humanity. Telling 2SLGBTQI+ stories is such an important part of this, which is why I’m so proud to work at TVO Media Education Group, where we amplify the voices of those with diverse lived experiences. We aim to deepen understanding by giving people a window into communities inside, and outside, of their own. And as an organization, we champion the 2SLGBTQI+ community across our hiring practices and our culture of inclusion. Learning is at the heart of everything we do at TVO, which is why we believe education, information, and connection, have important roles to play in fostering understanding, empathy, and acceptance, highlighted this month, but celebrated throughout the year. Happy Pride Month, everyone. Jeffrey

TVO Today Live was back on the road again, but this time landed in Ottawa!  The event hosted by Steve Paikin of TVO’s ‘The Agenda’, featured an illuminating discussion with Chief Justice Wagner, who shared insights on the Supreme Court's case selection, the critical role of judicial independence, and the interplay between courts and legislation. Highlighting the dangers of misinformation and the need for accessible courts, this event was a must-watch for anyone interested in the justice system.    Thank you to everyone who joined us in Ottawa for this insightful conversation! TVO Media Education Group is proud to bring this free of charge event to Ontarians and to give our viewers an opportunity to join in on conversations that matter.  TVO Today Live will air a recording of the event on June 27 at 9:00 pm ET on TVO.org, YouTube, TVO Today Smart TV app and TVO’s broadcast channel in Ontario    #TVOTodayLive #TVO
