We fund community & crime prevention programs that are beyond the annual operating budget of the Vancouver Police.

About us

The Vancouver Police Foundation was created 46 years ago with a clear purpose: to fund crime prevention programs and public safety initiatives that are above and beyond the annual operating budget of the Vancouver Police Department. Since then, thanks to the support of the citizens and businesses of Vancouver, the Foundation has granted over $10 million towards more than 200+ innovative programs – initiatives that have helped the VPD save lives and prevent crime. The Vancouver Police Foundation is a registered charitable organization (BN 89022-6178-RR0001), as well as a non-profit Society.

There are three full time Accredited Facility Dogs at the Vancouver Police Department, and one of them is celebrating a birthday today! AFD Sadie plays such an important role in protecting the mental health of VPD investigators who deal with disturbing images and information in the Internet Child Exploitation Unit. Also, with a cameo in this video is JFD Sydney who helps support people alongside the team within the Victim Services Unit. #workingdogs #VPD #MakingVancouverSaferTogether #VPF

  • We are excited to announce that thanks to support from near and far, the VPD Canine Unit raised $36,888 split evenly between the BC Cancer Foundation and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation through sales of the 2024 VPD Canine Calendar, proudly supported by the Vancouver Police Foundation! These two very deserving charities have been recipients of proceeds of the calendar since its launch over 15 years ago. Each has a special connection to the Unit and including this year’s total, they have contributed over $500,000 to supporting cancer research and children’s health in British Columbia. Our Canine Heroes have been working very hard since their photoshoots, with continual training supported in part by the Vancouver Police Foundation to ensure that they are at their optimal. In addition to funding the premier training facility in Canada, donors to the Canine Unit also provide access to life-saving equipment not covered by the VPD’s annual operating budget, such as K9 Storm vests.  Responding to over 8,000 calls for service a year, it takes a tremendous amount of training and resources to keep them ready to go 24/7.

From hampers for seniors and families, to gifts for women living on the DTES, and toys for the annual Christmas Wish Breakfast, VPD officers and civilian professionals have been hard at work spreading joy throughout the city. Our donors have made this possible, and we want you to know that your contributions will make a difference in every corner of Vancouver this year. Thank you.

The VPD Cadet program exemplifies how support from our donors is helping make Vancouver safer for youth like JP & Fahima. Please take a moment to meet Jin Peng (JP) Zhou and Fahima Mohibi, two VPD Cadet graduates who represent the many Vancouver youth who have benefited from the life-changing VPD Cadet program. https://lnkd.in/ddr6Fz25
