The Pan-Canadian, Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC), Replaces the GED® The General Education Development (GED®) high-school-equivalency test has been utilized extensively in North America and is available in many countries worldwide. Passing the GED® test provides those who have not completed high school, or don’t satisfy the requirements for a secondary-school diploma, an opportunity to earn a high-school-equivalency certificate. Although its use is widespread, most countries have developed their own equivalency tests and/or provide a variety of different pathways for adults to obtain a school-leaving certificate and/or continue with higher education or vocational training. In this article, I provide brief overviews of approaches used by a few selected countries and focus on a newly developed Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC), which has recently replaced the GED® in Canada.
