About us

Young Canadians for Resources is a volunteer, youth advocacy initiative created by students and young professionals, for students and young professionals. We are a student-led movement on campuses across Canada from coast to coast. YCR encourages young Canadians to have a balanced and informed conversation about our natural resources and the environment. We are working together to find solutions and bridge the gap in the current narrative. People, planet, and prosperity are the cornerstones of what we stand for and what we value.

As I reach the halfway mark of my co-op work term at Athabasca Oil Corporation, I had the chance to attend many Young Canadians for Resources events and meet some incredible folks. Speaking to peers working in the ecosystem like me to CEOs of various natural resource industry companies, I began to understand the intricacies of the oil and gas industry. My experience the last few months working on emissions reduction and facility design has also allowed me to untangle many nuisances and perspectives I had on the industry growing up. Thats why I am happy to share that I had the great pleasure to write an article for Young Canadians for Resources highlighting this very experience from my youth to now. Thank you Lynn Exner and Sean Ryan for the opportunity. I hope you all take a few minutes to give it a read and think about how we can approach the future through innovation and collaboration! #student #engineering #coop #naturalresource #oilandgas #innovation #ubcengineering #mechanicalengineering

  • 🌟 A couple of weeks ago, we wrapped up our final Lunch and Learn of the summer with the #YCRLeadershipProgram. We designed this session to empower YOU to speak confidently about the oil & gas industry. Heather Exner-Pirot and Lynn Exner joined us to discuss energy transition, debunk myths, and advocate effectively for the oil & gas industry. One of the highlights from our session was hearing your questions! Many of you asked: "When friends or strangers ask how you support oil & gas, what do you tell them?" At YCR, we encourage these tips, so drop a comment below and let's continue this conversation on how to effectively handle this question😁

  • We are so proud of you guys, congrats on the win!🥳 It was truly a brilliant idea and we definitely could tell a lot of thought went into it. We’re really looking forward to seeing what you come up with next year😁

Last week, I had the opportunity to compete at the YCR Dragon's Den Competition! The focus this year was to create a campaign that could be run on campuses across Canada, this campaign would educate students about the career opportunities within the Canadian natural resource sector. My team (Sleeves for Success) created an idea that involves partnering with coffee shops across Canada and provide them with free customized coffee sleeves. These sleeves would feature a fact about the industry on the sleeve as well as links to relevant webpages which would help educate the reader. The sleeves would be tailored to each province and look to promote the largest natural resource industry in this region. After some fierce competition, my team was able to secure the win! This competition provided an amazing chance to present in front of industry executives and fellow summer students. It was challenging with so many great teams also competing. Thank you to Young Canadians for Resources for another great event and I look forward to defending the title next year!

  • 😁Hey, YOU!😁 Join us this Thursday for our second biggest competition of the #YCRLeadershipProgram: Dragon's Den! This year, we asked summer students from various oil & gas companies to create marketing campaigns promoting Canada's Natural Resources workforce. Not to be biased, but they've definitely crafted some one-of-a-kind strategies :) Curious to see these campaigns in action? Then don't miss out!😘 Plus, enjoy complimentary food and refreshments while you cheer them on. They've done the hard work, YOU just have to come and support them :) Interested? • 🌟 We had an amazing time at a recent workshop with the team! 🌟 A big thank you to Angie Fricke for inviting us to an Obsidian Energy Ltd. student workshop focused on Conflict Resolution, Mediation & Negotiation. And a huge shoutout to all the speakers!🤩 We had so much fun with the yarn exercise led by Jaime Lawrence M.S.S, Q. Med., which really showed us how despite our differences, we’re all connected in some way. It was truly eye-opening to realize that conflicts are a natural part of life, but when we handle them like pros with clear goals, we can achieve and ✨ slay ✨ so much together. And crazy to learn how valuable a little mediation can be in smoothing things out and bringing us closer. We are super excited to see how we apply these skills in our daily work! If you're a student or young pro looking to level up your skills at workshops like these, make sure to follow us and subscribe to our newsletters!! We're always sharing opportunities like these on our social media. Our DM's are always open too! 😁❤️

✨Our Experience at the Global Energy Show Canada ✨ Attending this show filled with industry leaders and public figures was a first for many of us, and we felt like kids in a candy store admiring the cool and innovative technology on display! We learned so much that by the end, we were industry nerds.🤓 Representing Canada Action Coalition was an amazing experience. We were excited to connect with so many Canadians who support our natural resources. It was heartwarming to receive compliments and inquiries like "Where did you get your shirt?" and "Wow, so many young Canadians this year!", highlighting our strong presence. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth, grabbed stickers, and shirts; your support means a lot to us. It makes us really proud that our message is resonating and that people are supporting our world-leading resources.❤️

I had the pleasure of attending a fantastic event this morning at the Calgary Petroleum Club organized by Young Canadians for Resources 💯🤍 A Big Thanks to Cody Battershill , Jessica Clark ,Rob Baillargeon and Lynn Exner who shared inspiring talks about innovation and opportunities and the impact of the oil and gas industry. Despite what we often hear about sustainable energy taking over, they showed that there's still a bright future for oil and gas. The speeches were very informative and truly inspiring. I left feeling more excited about the future possibilities in the industry!🔥

  • 🌟 Today was an incredible day for the YCR team🌟 We had the privilege of representing Canada Action Coalition at the National Coalition of Chiefs (NCC) Energy and Natural Resource Summit. It was an honor to be greeted warmly by Dale Swampy, the esteemed President of NCC. 💼We were seriously so lucky to be in a room full of industry leaders and CEOs including, Stephen Buffalo (CEO, Indian Resource Council), Shauna Feth, FEA (CEO, Alberta Chambers of Commerce), Lisa A. Baiton, MBA, ICD.D (CEO, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP)),Kendall Dilling (President, Pathways Alliance), Doug Griffiths, MBA (President/CEO, Edmonton Chamber of Commerce), Chana Martineau BA, ICD.D (President/CEO, Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation), Brent Nassichuk (Chief Science Officer, AGAT Laboratories), Shannon A Joseph (Chair, Energy for a Secure Future), Chief Judy Desjarlais, Chief Chief Roy Jones Jr, Craig Hallden, and Brian L Mountain. 🌍 As young Canadians attending this summit, we learned the importance of building strong Indigenous ties and understanding the economic values of our energy sector. These leaders made it clear: supporting Canada's natural resources isn't just a shared objective; it's our collective responsibility. 💡 Additionally, learning about how energy development creates jobs and opportunities for Indigenous communities and all Canadians left a lasting impact. We're not just shaping our future; we're paving the way for a more inclusive and prosperous Canada. #CanadianEnergy #FutureLeaders
