About

Though my background is in science, and I have a love of numbers and quantitative data, experience has taught me that these metrics often negate humanity. In order to connect with people in this world, we need to hear their stories. In writing my thesis for my Masters program, I decided to move towards this idea, towards the qualitative, and towards stories. I researched restorative justice in education and implemented a new approach to student-teacher interactions. This new method involved using circle process; a process which allows all participants to safely contribute to the group. My learning about restorative justice was transformative. The belief that all humans are inherently worthy is the crux. It causes me to reevaluate my preconceived notions and habitual thinking. It is an idea that can change our social structures. I seek to learn as much as I can in this field and to make use of rj in my teaching and personal interactions.
Learnings from restorative justice education led me to reevaluate my way of being. I believe all people are inherently worthy and interconnected. Beyond humans, we are also connected and indebted to our land. I aim to show my gratitude for this connection by honoring all people as worthy and by being intentional with my daily actions and how they affect the world we live in.
