About

Sometimes I refer to myself as a Jenn-of-many-trades. I am a natural community builder and leader with a wide breadth of professional skills and experiences. I am highly creative, a strong communicator and a excellent problem solver.

My academic background is a Bachelor
of Arts in Gender Studies with a minor in Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUNL). I have extensive knowledge of gender and social justice, community organizing and activism, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, trauma-informed practice, anti-oppression principles, political systems and diversity, equity and inclusion. During my time in university, I worked in several roles such as a Film Editor, Assistant Researcher, Event Planner, Archival Assistant and Community Programs Assistant.

In my current role, I am coordinating Employment Programs with YWCA St. Johns. I am a Career Practitioner and Life Skills Facilitator. I help women and gender-diverse folks in their career development goals through supportive employment programs for folks with barriers to employment. In my roles with YWCA, I have honed my person-centred support skills through all phases of program planning, development and delivery. Since 2019, I have been a volunteer Board Member with Art Force NL and I volunteer as a Leadership Team Member with Equal Voice NL and with Camp Eclipse (Planned Parenthood NLSHC). Since 2019, I have also been a Mentor for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth with Camp Eclipse.

Outside of my professional and volunteering roles, I am a visual and multidisciplinary artist and I sing with Spectrum Queer Choir.

  • Sharing Stories: Feminisms Re/Presented

    -

In celebration of International Women's Day 2018, I collaborate with Maddie Mills of Maddie Mills Photography and offered a day of curated body painting and an accompanying photo shoot for participants. The design for the body painting were sourced from local applicants who were asked to submit a brief statement about their feminist beliefs and values. The statements were then translated (by Jenn Marie Artistry) into a full-scale body painting located on the backs of thr 5 participating models.…

The design for the body painting were sourced from local applicants who were asked to submit a brief statement about their feminist beliefs and values. The statements were then translated (by Jenn Marie Artistry) into a full-scale body painting located on the backs of thr 5 participating models. This event was accompanied by hair and make up artist, Nadia Ali Artistry and Maddie Mills Photography directed the photography.

The project was planned through February/ March of 2018, and was executed on March 8th, 2018.

After the collaborative project, Jenn and Maddie delivered a presentation at the Bier Markt, for Millstreet Pub's celebration of International Women's Day. The event was also documented by a local lifestyle writer/ publisher, Tint of Ink, where the project and Jenn's art was highlighted.

  • Tangled Threads/ Films Entremêlés

    -

Through the Memorial Undergraduate Career Experience Program (MUCEP), I conducted archival research to contribute to the video portion of the Tangled Threads/ Fils Entremêlés exhibition.
