About

I am passionate about using machine learning techniques in real-world applications. I am currently working as Machine Learning Research Engineer at Qeexo Co. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Previously, I completed a summer internship at Dassault Systems R&D, Waltham, MA in 2019. I worked towards using deep reinforcement learning techniques for improving 3-D CAD design approaches in company's product: SolidWorks. During spring 2019, I completed an internship at Qeexo Co. R&D, Pittsburgh, PA in the area of machine learning and signal processing.

Projects

  • DNN-PSO: DNN Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization of Aircraft Panels

    - Present

Working on the use of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) to approximate the response of FEA to accelerate the particle swarm optimization of aircraft panels. Experimental results show that DNNs can speed up the standard methods by a factor of 10,000 while obtaining an accuracy of 95% on the test set for approximating FEA response within 10% of actual value.

  • Advance Truck Frame Optimization Phase II

    -

In collaboration with Metalsa Inc., Roanoke, VA

Developing an optimization framework for design of advance heavy duty SuperTruck frame. The frame’s shape and thicknesses at different locations are parametrized using 60 design variables. The objective is to minimize weight under various constraints: stress, vertical bending frequency and stiffness.

  • Machine Learning based Modeling Recommendations for Complex Submarine Structures

    -

Lead a team at Virginia Tech for developing a machine learning based software tool to provide automated finite element modeling recommendations in submarine structures. The software was developed for the US Navy. The project is selected for next phase starting Sept, 2018.

  • Front Frame Design Optimization for Trucks Phase I

    -

In collaboration with Metalsa Inc., Roanoke, VA

Designed front frame of heavy duty trucks for weight minimization under stress constraint. The shape and thicknesses of front frame were parametrized using 19 design variables. For performing FEA, a low fidelity model of rear frame was developed and attached to the front frame. The project is selected for Phase II (started March, 2018).

  • NASA Performance Adaptive Aeroelastic Wing Program

    -

In collaboration with University of Minnesota, MN (Supported by NASA)

Optimized low-speed drone’s structural panels with curvilinear stiffeners to minimize weight under buckling and stress constraints. Used particle swarm optimization and gradient based optimization iteratively in two-step optimization. Curvilinear stiffeners showed weight reduction of 13% over conventional straight stiffeners.

  • BAJA SAE INDIA 2012

    -

Worked as a Junior Team Member in fabricating small off-road car. Baja SAE is an intercollegiate design competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Teams of students from universities all over the India design and build small off-road cars and take part in different tests and competitions
