Projects

  • IoT Robot with Telus LTE-M & Microsoft Azure (SmartCarts)

This project was completed during a makeathon event,"makeUofT" hosted by IEEE and MLH. The theme of the makeathon was "connectivity".

The team utilized Telus LTE-M IoT starter kit and Microsoft Azure cloud system to remotely control movement of a robot. The robot also collected various sensor data and sent the information to Azure cloud system.

    Through this project, I learned:
    1. Integrating Telus LTE-M technology with Microsoft Azure.

    Through this project, I learned:
    1. Integrating Telus LTE-M technology with Microsoft Azure.
    2. Learning about various IoT technology - low-bandwidth and high-bandwidth IoT communication.
    3. How to communicate between devices and cloud.

  • Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Implementation Platform for U of T Formula SAE Team - Capstone

    -

    - Placed Top 18 at the University of Toronto Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Capstone Showcase.
    - Derived a transfer function between voltage input and throttle plate angle to model the ETC system.
    - Constructed a Simulink block diagram model of the control system architecture.
    - Conducted various tests using oscilloscope, circuitry and MATLAB to find motor inductance, spring
constant, viscous friction coefficient and moment of inertia to complete the derived transfer…

    - Performed FMEA to identify failure modes and validated safety protocols with the prototype.
    - Constructed a prototype to validate the estimated PID value sand the safety protocols.
    - Created VBA interface to allow the FSAE team to generate an equation to modify the relationship
between the driver input and the throttle angel to control precise air flow to the engine.
