About

With over twenty years of experience creating applications for the web, I am an engineering leader who combines technical expertise, design thinking, and innovation in education.

As an Engineering Manager at Shopify, I led several teams that aimed to make Shopify storefronts as fast as possible everywhere in the world. I managed the Storefront Foundations, Storefront API, and Carts teams, which were responsible for rendering, stewarding, and scaling core features of the platform. I helped build the Carts team to solve some of the most challenging enterprise-focused problems facing Shopify, requiring coordination with multiple stakeholders across the org.

Prior to Shopify, I was the CTO and Head of Instruction at Bitmaker, a technology skills accelerator, and supported internal learning systems and curriculum design, while delivering lectures to over 1200 full-time students. I also oversaw the integration of technology and instruction at General Assembly, after Bitmaker was acquired by them.

I have a passion for teaching and learning, and I enjoy working as a project generalist, solving problems across the whole application stack. My goal is to build world-class engineering teams focused on continuous growth, trust, and learning from failure.

  • TIFFR

    - Present

TIFFR is a companion app to the Toronto International Film Festival that helps people shortlist films they're interested in seeing, then easily create a schedule of screenings that fit into their lives.

Built with Rails, Ryan and I use this project to challenge ourselves to learn new things and keep pushing our skills forward on an annual basis. We frequently collaborate with the tech team at TIFF to ensure all the data is correct and to look for ways to collaborate, year-over-year.
