To bring women together. That is the entire purpose for Monica Kretschmer. To create a place where women feel empowered and are able to mentor each other. A place where women can network and find support while building their businesses. “I know firsthand the challenges, struggles women face in the corporate world and the strength that is required to start and scale a business. I had a vision to break barriers and silos and collaborate, and have been laser focused on this from the beginning,” says Kretschmer.
It all started when Kretschmer found herself suddenly single with a young child to take care of. She had a job in corporate Calgary, but always knew she wanted more. “I’ve always been an entrepreneur, always had ideas percolating… I’m a visionary, a connector.” She had this crazy idea of a place where women could work together to foster a community where diversity, innovation, recognition, mentorship and a disruptor mindset were all valued. Where women could feed their souls and their pocketbooks, all while finding much needed mentorship. A place where Purpose, with a capital P, could be found by all. To Kretschmer, everything is about Purpose. Everything she has gone through – all the hurdles and hardships – have led her to this point. Her Purpose is to help other women find their own Purpose. She loves the beauty and symmetry in that.

Taylor found me and I shared my experience volunteering in the floods, a kindred spirit that helped me move mountains into place to offer flood volunteers and families a place to escape and comfort one another.
This No. 1 bestselling book examines one of the worst natural disasters in Canadian history, the 2013 Alberta flood. Written in a narrative non-fiction style, the book examines the disaster through multiple storylines recounting the perspectives of people who experienced it in very different ways: the disabled and elderly residents in downtown Calgary who were left trapped without power while their neighbours were evacuated; the homeless man forced to wander the city after his shelter was closed; the elderly High River woman who was rescued by strangers from her home after her basement wall collapsed while she was in the house. These tales are balanced by overwhelming displays of support from strangers in the face of disaster.

"This past June, our province was hit by the worst flooding in our history, displacing 10,000 Albertans from their homes and businesses. From the early hours of the emergency, through the months of rebuilding and recovery, the strength of our communities and people has exemplified the spirit of Alberta.
The Alberta Heroes of the Flood program was created to recognize the truly extraordinary efforts of Albertans who stepped up as the waters rose. When our province faced the worst, you reached out to help those who needed it most. I want to congratulate you as you have been nominated as a hero of the flood.
It is my honor to present you with an Official Hero of the Flood certificate in recognition of your outstanding service. Please accept my deepest and sincerest thanks for your incredible efforts. Your bravery, resilience and compassion is nothing short of extraordinary.
While there is still a lot of work ahead of us, with the support and inspiration from Albertans such as you, we will rebuild Alberta together - stronger and better than ever." - Alison Redford Premier of Alberta
