About

Associate Professor of Educational Technology at Université Laval and hold the National Bank Chair in Educational Leadership for Innovative Pedagogical Practices in Digital Contexts.

I co-lead the Education and Empowerment research theme at the International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technology (OBVIA). My doctorate in educational technology explored the dynamics of hate, fear, and prejudice spreading through social media, resulting in the development of a model to empower youth in countering social media propaganda.

Supported by prestigious grants and research groups such as CRIFPE, CRIRES, GRIIPTIC, CRIEVAT, and IID, my foundational work laid the groundwork for my subsequent research into deepfakes and digital mis-disinformation and fraud. I focus on how education can empower citizens to develop resilience and agency against these threats.

My leadership role at OBVIA underscores my commitment to addressing the pressing issues of our digital era and harnessing technology for societal good. My efforts respond to the global need for targeted educational interventions alongside legal and technological solutions to ensure a safer digital future, aligning with global movements and legislative actions.

I am humbled to have been recognized with the 2018 Governor General Gold Medal for the excellence of my thesis and the 2019 SALTISE Best Practices & Pedagogical Innovators Award for my contributions to the field of educational technology. Furthermore, I was awarded the 2022 John F. Lemieux Young Alumni Medal by Concordia University. This prestigious award is presented to a graduate who, through their trailblazing spirit and next-generation approach, actively challenges current boundaries in their field in their pursuit of excellence.

As part of its plan to revive research activities, the Vice-Provost for Research, Creation and Innovation set up thematic working groups whose mandate is to develop major innovative projects in order to seize opportunities related to the recovery of the economy and our society in the wake of the pandemic.

Lord Dufferin, Canada’s third Governor General after Confederation, created the Academic Medals in 1873 to encourage academic excellence across the nation. Over the years, they have become the most prestigious award that students in Canadian schools can receive.

For more than 140 years, the Governor General’s Academic Medals have recognized the outstanding scholastic achievements of students in Canada. They are awarded to the student graduating with the highest average from a high school, as well as from approved college or university programs. Pierre Trudeau, Tommy Douglas, Kim Campbell, Robert Bourassa, Robert Stanfield and Gabrielle Roy are just some of the more than 50 000 people who have received the Governor General’s Academic Medal as the start of a life of accomplishment.

Today, the Governor General’s Academic Medals are awarded at four distinct levels: Bronze at the secondary school level; Collegiate Bronze at the post-secondary, diploma level; Silver at the undergraduate level; and Gold at the graduate level. Medals are presented on behalf of the Governor General by participating educational institutions, along with personalized certificates signed by the Governor General. There is no monetary award associated with the Medal.
