About

Patti Schom-Moffatt, MSW, ICD.D, is principal and chief strategist of PSM Ventures, an independent consultancy offering strategic communications counsel, reputation, issues and crisis management services to a range of corporate and non-profit clients. My research and policy background inform my work on reputation, issues and crises, stakeholder engagement, communications strategy development and leading teams on complex, integrated public relations, social marketing and communications assignments. I am a professional facilitator and offer goal planning, media training and crisis simulation workshops. I am known for my strong writing skills and often help clients translate technical documents into more popular writing for broader audiences.

I founded Karyo Communications, a public relations/communications company that in 2007, was acquired by Edelman, the largest PR firm in the world. Following Karyo’s acquisition, I remained co-General Manager of Edelman Vancouver until April 2013, and Chief Client Officer for Edelman Canada until June 2015, before returning to my routes as an independent consultant.

I have had a significant role in the establishment of an LNG industry in British Columbia. I was instrumental in helping Kitimat LNG become the first permitted LNG export facility on the West Coast of North America, serving as the Director of Communications and Community Consultation, and a member of the Haisla/Kitimat LNG economic benefits agreement negotiating committee.

From 2011 to 2022, I supported the communications and community engagement functions at LNG Canada, and managed the Your Place program -- a program designed to encourage women to participate in the skilled trades.

In 2014/2015, I led a reorganization of Manitoba Hydro's Corporate Communications and Public Affairs division, and served as the interim VP of the new Department for 10 months.

I hold a Bachelor of Social Sciences from the University of Waterloo and a Masters of Social Work (Social Policy) from Carleton University. I am the past president of Probus Vancouver West, and a board member of The Bloom Group.

I am a graduate of the ICD.D Directors Education Program (2013) and was Valedictorian of the graduating class.
