Peter Jaskiewicz

“ I have known Dr. Peter Jaskiewicz for over three years. When Peter first hired me as one of his research assistant’s, I was a young undergraduate Psychology student, unsure about the field of academia. Now I am a Master’s student in management working towards my Phd, and without Peter’s supervision, but most importantly his mentorship, I would not be where I am today. Peter is personable, hard working, and enthusiastic about sharing his extensive knowledge in family business and entrepreneurship. Peter is a great leader; he has the ability to provide his research assistants with the right amount of structure, while simultaneously giving us independence in our work. I began as a research assistant doing simple data collection, and over the years Peter has given me more responsibility and independence with my work. With Peter’s supervision and mentorship, I was able to present our research at the 11th annual Family Enterprise Research Conference, produced a great undergraduate thesis, and we are now working towards submitting our research to a top management conference. Peter takes the time to teach his students and values any ideas we may have. For example, Peter has integrated many of my ideas into the family business project. He always gives credit where credit is due; it was never solely his research project, but ours. I believe the aforementioned examples of who Peter is as a supervisor and mentor, are what set him apart from many other professors. Through Peter’s mentorship I have found my love of research and I am very grateful to him. An important aspect of Peter’s interaction with his students is that he takes the time to get to know us. Under Peter’s supervision, I oversaw three undergraduate students, and we all appreciated how accessible Peter was. He was always available to answer any of our questions or to ease any self-doubt we had. Throughout the entire process he was there to provide guidance, constructive feedback, and positive reinforcement-something I believe all students value. It is a testament to his character that any student or professor that I have spoken to, regularly comment on what a great person Peter is. Although it is sad to see Peter leave JMSB, I am excited for his new career at Telfer School of Management; I know he will continue to accomplish new and exciting research. I strongly recommend Peter as a teacher, supervisor, and most importantly as a mentor. ”

He was very approachable and inspiring which helped me a lot to advance my thesis. And the best experience was that he invited me to come to the University of Alberta and work together with him and his team on new research ideas.
