ITE Atlantic Canada

Transportation Programs

A community of transportation professionals in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland & Labrador

About us

The Atlantic Canada Section of ITE has thrived for over three decades as the community of choice for transportation professionals and students from across the Atlantic provinces. Our activities focus on two regular in-person meetings. The fall meeting and AGM held in Fredericton (NB) is rich in history and memorable times. The spring meeting which in past would migrate between Charlottetown (PEI) and Halifax (NS) has remained in Halifax as of late. We also support transportation students and research in the region at the University of New Brunswick and Dalhousie University.

Only a few more days to register! https://lnkd.in/emRi6ssj ITE Atlantic will be holding a mid-winter virtual meeting as an opportunity to shine the spotlight on two of the universities in the area with significant transportation engineering and planning programs. This will be an one-hour event held virtually over lunch hour (12-1pm) on Tuesday, February 27th. Our friends at Dalhousie University and University of New Brunswick will each get about half of the hour to talk about the research they’re doing, their programs, why you should hire all of their students, etc. - From University of New Brunswick, Alex Gallant will be presenting his Masters research on Elements Related to Pedestrian Safety at Roundabouts. - Dalhousie University will be presenting on the topic of Climate Action Evaluation: Lessons from Multiple Canadian Cities. Last year the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) undertook an initiative to increase the number of Registered Professional Planners who are members of the organization. Free membership was offered with a 50% discount in the following year. I am looking for Planners in Canada who either joined through this initiative or have been members for years to record an ITE Canada 'Career Connect with Kate' episode with me in the new year. Please send me a message or forward this onto to someone who might be interested in participating.

One of the highlights of the year for me is the ITE Canada Atlantic Section Fall Meeting in Fredericton, NB! It's a such a wonderful reunion of transportation professionals in the region, and included a number of special guests from other regions too. From colleagues, former grad students, former undergraduate students and current students, it was a great time of professional development and reconnection. I think will need to invest in a selfie stick for next year and we'll have to do a UNB photo op (sorry if I missed you)! UNB Civil Engineering is really representing in transportation across the region! Big thanks to the organizers Adam Lanigan, Hannah McBride, Courtney Pyne, P.Eng., PMP, Mark Gunter, and to all the presenters, sponsors and attendees. Attendees also heavily supported the UNB ITE Student Chapter as it looks to raise money to go to the annual conference. Also big news that Halifax is hosting ITE Canada Annual Conference in 2025! ITE Atlantic Canada is hosting a ‘Fall Technical Session and Social’ on Thursday, Nov 23rd in Fredericton, New Brunswick. I will be leading a panel on the theme of “adventures in procurement.” Similar to what I organized at the ITE Canada conference in Winnipeg last spring - where a panel of municipal staff was brought together to talk candidly about writing RFPs, responding to addendums and evaluating proposal responses. The details for this in-person panel are still being worked out but I wanted to post in advance – what themes would you like explored when it comes to improving, for all parties involved, procurement processes in Canada? For more information about the event, check out: https://lnkd.in/deTts_8b

The UNB Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter did a really neat activity: pumpkin decorating for Halloween! I thought it was a great way to get people together, have some fun and to be creative. Our ITE Student Chapter is always organizing interesting activities to foster professional development and collaboration. They participated at the national ITE Canada conference this year and will also participate in upcoming local Atlantic Section activities as well!
