As the summer unfolds in Switzerland and the lakes and rivers fill with swimmers, the Swiss Business Hubs came this week from all over the world for their annual update training on investment promotion. This week we had the opportunity to take part in the Tech Experience Tour and visit innovation parks in the Cantons of Bern, Ticino and Zurich. There have been many valuable opportunities to learn about key technologies such as AI, Drones, Robotics and Virtual Reality. Understanding the innovative capabilities and strengths of Switzerland is a core foundation of business intelligence. The Hub intends to leverage those insights and contacts in upcoming projects. Additionally, this week has given excellent opportunities to have exchanges with colleagues and better understand how the Hub can best support them going forward. Next week: Mt. Refreshing exchanges with students from University of St.Gallen and Concordia University yesterday in Montreal! The Hub was delighted to host such a great group at the Consulate General of Switzerland and present our Export and Invest promotion activities to the students. We were pleased to interact with a new generation of students with impressive plans for their future. The Hub was pleased to welcome our colleague, Liv Minder, Investment Promotion Director from our Headquarters in Zurich to spend the past two days to hash out concrete new exciting plans for the Hub in Canada. In addition to those strategic sessions, the Hub, in cooperation with the Consul General Line Leon-Pernet, hosted a luncheon with Christopher Skeete, Quebec’s Minister for the Economy and the presence of some of our key partners. Those exchanges with key stakeholders and government officials were a testimonial of the results achieved back in April 2023 Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin’s mission to Montreal back in April 2023. The seeds planted on that occasion are regularly watered as was the case this week. The friendly relationship between Canada and Switzerland proves to be flourishing and the Hub looks forward to continuing supporting trade and investment between our two like-minded countries. Yesterday evening, the Swiss Business Hub Canada, in partnership with the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce-Ontario hosted a successful business and innovation networking event in Toronto! We are grateful to have been welcomed by the Honorary Consul of Switzerland, Alexandra Soriano-Bernhard. We further enjoyed the gracious hospitality from our friends at Switzerland Tourism. The Hub hosted a nice mix of companies, partners and key stakeholders, which led to fruitful exchanges on key topics involving Swiss-Canadian trade relations. The group was able to learn more about the strong existing footprint of Swiss companies operating in Canada and also hear about our recent study on the Swiss-Based Businesses Presence in Canada. Additionally, S-GE, the Hub and the Chamber of Commerce were all able to share on the strong existing network ready to help Swiss companies wishing to expand into Canada. Many Canadian companies also joined the event to learn about Switzerland as a key business location in Europe. The Hub in coordination with the Greater Zurich Area were able to provide valuable insights showcasing the pragmatic approach Switzerland, the regions and cantons take towards helping companies set foot in our country. The Swiss Business Hub Canada is back in Toronto for the Collision Conf! This year we are joined by our Team Switzerland colleagues, Mélusine Perrier from Switzerland Global Enterprise, Daniel Bangser from the Swiss Business Hub USA along with Milo Baker and Lukas Sieber from the Greater Zurich Area. The Conference is one of the largest tech conferences in North America, which welcomes almost 40’0000 delegates from 57 different countries. Our team is working together to put Switzerland on the map and facilitate trade and investment exchanges with the attendence. The Hub has had the opportunity to strengthen relationships with key partners such as UBS and Toronto Global, learn a great deal when attending thought-provoking panels such as the one with Sandra Ro from the Global Blockchain Business Council and also met many new Swiss and Canadian companies. Toronto is a key city and market for Swiss companies and also a vibrant ecosystem to meet innovative companies in fields such as AI, Cybersecurity and Fintech. Day Two is up next! The Swiss Business Hub Canada continued its company visits in Zurich, Fribourg and Lugano this week! We could present Canada’s numerous business opportunities on a wide array of sectors including medtech, cybersecurity, monitoring systems, wood products, pharmaceuticals, rail infrastructure and software solutions. It was also a great opportunity to exchange with our colleagues at Switzerland Global Enterprise's three offices in Switzerland (Zurich, Lausanne, Lugano). The Hub launched its company visits in Switzerland last Friday! We could meet Amberg Engineering's management team at their HQ in Regendorf, learning more about the company’s engineering feats in tunnel construction, and exchanging on the numerous business opportunities in Canada.   Further we had the opportunity to visit Hoval, a leading international company for indoor climate solutions based in Triesen, Liechtenstein. It was great to meet in person and to discuss the latest developments in the Canadian commercial heat pump market.   The Hub is looking forward to meeting additional Swiss companies in the Zurich, Fribourg and Lugano areas next week, continuing to grow Swiss-Canadian trade relations along the way!
