Surveying the historical bridge 🌉 – crossing Rhine, connecting countries. Last week, we had the unique opportunity to measure the historic Hemishofen Railway Bridge—an impressive, welded iron structure built in 1875 that is now classified as a monument of national importance. You can ride across the bridge by a historical train or on a rail bike as a part of Museumsbahn exhibition 🚂 . We drove across the bridge with Amberg trolley to check the track parameters, combining history with modern technology on this iconic bridge. #AmbergInfra7D #AmbergRail #Museumsbahn

On August 1st, Switzerland comes alive with the celebration of Swiss National Day. This date marks the historic signing of the Federal Charter of 1291, a historic pact among the localities of Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden to support each other in the face of adversity. According to legend, the representatives of these three founding regions known as 'the three Confederates' sealed their alliance on the Rütli meadow overlooking Lake Lucerne, vowing to liberate their land from Habsburg rule. Throughout Switzerland, the night sky is ablaze with bonfires and fireworks in honor of this momentous day. Children participate in charming lantern parades, proudly displaying the Swiss cross and their cantonal flags. Festivities feature parades with participants in traditional costumes, yodelling choirs, alphorn performances, and impressive flag-throwing displays, celebrating the rich heritage and enduring freedom of Switzerland.

Furthering the Field of Engineering Surveying and Digital Construction! Recently we had the honor of welcoming Prof. Gerrit Austen from Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart) to Amberg Infra 7D as part of his research semester in Switzerland. This visit created an excellent opportunity for information sharing to generate ideas and optimizations for Bachelor and Master modules in engineering surveying, geo-monitoring, and digital construction. We take pride in shaping the infrastructure that future generations will use to enter the industry. Our own, Michael Buri also contributes his expertise as a lecturer at HFT in the field of GeoMonitoring, providing us with invaluable insights into how the educational system brings out the best in student. But progress is always welcome, hence why Prof. Austen’s visit included insightful tours of several prestigious institutions in Switzerland: ◾ At the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW, Institute of Geomatics, we had engaging discussions and a fantastic tour. Special thanks to Prof. Dante Salvini and Prof. David Eugen Grimm for their hospitality. ◾ Our visit to the Hagerbach Test Gallery (VersuchsStollen Hagerbach AG) test gallery was equally enlightening. We extend our gratitude to Dr. Michael Kompatscher and Dr. Julien Michels for the guided tour and the deep dive into the various innovative areas of their work. ◾ We also had the privilege of visiting ETH Zürich, accompanied by Dario Schwendener to further broaden our perspectives and collaborative potential. Thank you to everyone involved, for making this visit an enriching and inspiring experience. Your generosity and openness to sharing knowledge have been invaluable. We are excited about the future possibilities that our collaborations will bring. Progress is the activity of today and the assurance of tomorrow. Note: We did manage to squeeze in a small bike ride. Did you know? Furka Tunnel Edition! After yet another visit to the Furka tunnel, Amberg Infra 7D, with a long and rich history at this iconic tunnel, has captured some epic moments and text to share with you. 🛤 The 15.4km Furka base tunnel was built as a replacement for the Furka summit tunnel. The summit tunnel is a 1.8km tunnel on the Furka-Oberalp line, crossing difficult terrain and needing closure during winter months. 🛤 Construction started in 1971 and finished in 1982 at a cost of over 300 million francs. 🛤 1520m is the maximum overburden, in other words, there is a 1520m mountain above the tunnel in some areas, and yet both entrances are at 1400m (West portal) and 1500m (East portal) above sea level. 🛤 Following the commissioning in 1982, Amberg Engineering remained in the project for various long-time surveys and was called back for implementing new safety standards and the refurbishing the whole tunnel in 2006.   🛤 Michael Buri scanned the whole tunnel in 2008 in two night shifts with our GRP5000 system, from which numerous clearance and data analysis were made. 🛤 Another full scan was completed in 2020 to analyze clearance after the large refurbishment, including the installation of the new ventilation system. 🛤 As always, we surveyors, have special privileges and make the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn train stop for us in the middle of the tunnel, to drop us off and pick us up, thanks MGB! 🛤 There is a 5221m access tunnel to Bedretto – a tiny village in the Ticino canton. Initially used for assistance to build the main tunnel, then abandoned, only to be restored as an aid for ventilation and a playground for deep geothermal energy testing by ETH Zürich. 🛤 Recently, the network survey lasting seven nights and stake out of the catenary support structure was completed by Amberg Infra 7D. We could go on for hours, literally, but this time around, the job was an update on infrastructure location. Navigating 15,407m of tunnel only took two nights, with the data processing being handed to the client shortly after that.
