Accelerating R&D matters because materials are essential to improve our lives and tackle some of humanity’s biggest challenges. The discovery of new materials has always been a key driver of industrial progress. However, the development of these materials is currently facing three major challenges: time, cost, and labor. This is similar to "Eroom’s Law" in drug development, where despite advancements, the cost of developing new drugs doubles approximately every nine years due to increasing complexity. But now, with the integration of AI and robotics, we see new possibilities in material development. For example, our portfolio company Atinary Technologies leverages "self-driving labs" to not only simulate material synthesis with AI but also automate experiments with robotics, significantly reducing development time.
