Today, we celebrate the five-year anniversary of Auxivo's incorporation in 2019. Over these years, Auxivo has grown from an early-stage ETH Zürich Spin-Off into a key innovator in the dynamic #exoskeleton market. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us along the way. To mark this occasion, we've written a blog post reflecting on the sometimes turbulent first five years of our company's history (link in the comments). #auxivo

A new OmniSuit study conducted by Auxivo and ETH scientists has been published in the Journal of Applied Ergonomics! Study Overview: Participants and Task: 31 participants lifted a load of 2.5kg from the floor and placed it overhead, spanning the entire vertical range of motion. They performed this twice: once with the LiftSuit and once without. Measurements: At nine positions, electromyography was used to record muscle activity in the back and shoulder muscles over the entire vertical range of motion. Results: 💡 The OmniSuit reduced average back muscle activity significantly by over 30% (lower back) and by over 40% (upper back) during the first phase of the task when the load was lifted from ground level to hip height. 💡 The OmniSuit reduced average shoulder muscle activity significantly between 30 and 50% when lifting the load from belly height to overhead level. The study demonstrates that the OmniSuit design can offer multi-joint support during multitask activities. Its capability to assist users' bodies throughout the entire vertical range of motion can further reduce the workload compared to single-joint exoskeletons, particularly in applications such as logistics, construction, and manufacturing. The publication is open-access and freely available. For more information on the OmniSuit, visit our website. Links are in the comments. #Exoskeletons #WorkplaceSafety #IndustrialInnovation #MuscleFatigue #Ergonomics #CollaborativeResearch #wearables

A reading sample of the updated EduExo Pro handbook is now available! One feedback we often received from EduExo users in the past was that they were pleasantly surprised by how detailed the handbook's content is. While being written in an easy-to-understand way, it does not shy away from discussing advanced #exoskeleton topics that go far beyond your standard robotics kit. To avoid this "confusion" in the future, we have now published a reading sample of the EduExo Pro handbook containing the forewords, preface, table of contents, the complete first chapter, and excerpts from all chapters. This will allow you to better assess in advance what the EduExo Pro can offer and whether it could be the right tool for your teaching, learning, or research. The reading sample is embedded below. To download it, maximize the viewport and click the download button in the upper right corner. #exoskeletons #STEM #education #wearables #robotics

This week, we want to explore the updated EduExo Pro hardware! The EduExo Pro is designed as a versatile #exoskeleton teaching platform that reduces the time and resources educators need to prepare hands-on, project-based learning experiences. The recent updates focus on making the hardware easier to assemble, operate, and maintain. Additionally, we've introduced new features to provide educators with more content they can use in their classrooms. An (incomplete) list of improvements and new features: 💡Easier to assemble: With prior assembly and soldering experience, the first EduExo Pro takes around 3-4 hours. If you build more than one, the subsequent units can be assembled in around 1-2 hours. 💡Increased robustness and reliability: The exoskeleton now includes a custom-made PCB, significantly reducing cable clutter and assembly errors and enhancing overall robustness. 💡Improved Battery Access: Battery replacement is quicker and more straightforward, facilitating uninterrupted use. 💡Adjustable Shoulder Support: The shoulder spring tensioning mechanism has been simplified, enabling students to explore different levels of support easily. 💡Enhanced Functionality: Additional push buttons can be pre-programmed with various behaviors, allowing for quick and easy demonstrations or testing of different programs. 💡Optional External Power Supply: Available for easier programming, preparation, debugging, and testing. 💡New Microcontroller: The updated EduExo Pro features an Arduino Nano IoT with an integrated IMU. This setup allows activity recording and shoulder angle estimation and provides additional connectivity. 💡More EMG Electrodes: Instead of six electrodes, we now ship it with 50! This increase allows for extensive experimentation before replenishing supplies. 💡 Versatile Assembly Options: Assembling the kit as either a left- or right-arm exoskeleton is now simpler. If you have two kits, you can easily combine them to create a full upper-body exoskeleton.

Today, as we gear up for the EduExo Pro 2 launch in July, we want to give you a first look at the content of its handbook and tutorial. The EduExo Pro handbook is a comprehensive resource with over 180 pages that explores various aspects of #exoskeleton technology. Organized into ten main chapters, it covers a broad range of topics crucial for understanding modern exoskeletons, including human anatomy, mechanics, design, electronics, software, control systems, virtual realities and video games, and scientific experiments. Each chapter begins with an introduction to the theoretical background of a topic. Most chapters then continue with a practical tutorial section that enables readers to combine theory with hands-on practice. These tutorials are structured to guide users step by step in building and programming the EduExo Pro exoskeleton, training their practical skills along the way. By completing the handbook and tutorials, readers will acquire relevant knowledge and skills for designing modern, professional exoskeletons. In educational settings, the handbook's structure allows individuals or groups to go through it step by step or divide it among group members, with each member specializing in a different topic. The following key knowledge and skills that can be acquired through the EduExo Pro: 💡 Introduction: Basics of exoskeletons, their history, functionality, and real-world examples. 💡 Exoskeleton Development: The development process, team dynamics, and various technologies used in exoskeleton creation. 💡 Anatomy and Mechanics: Fundamentals of functional anatomy and mechanics, integration of human body with mechanical systems, and initial assembly and usage of the EduExo Pro. 💡 Mechanical Design: Sketching, CAD design, stress-strain analysis, and technical drawings, along with manufacturing and assembly processes. Design new parts and modify the EduExo Pro if you like using 3D printing. 💡 Electronics: Basics of microcontrollers, motors, force and position sensors, IMUs, EMG, and PCBs, including tutorials on assembling electronics and soldering. 💡 Software: Microcontroller programming basics, developing various programs to read sensors and control the exoskeleton motor. 💡 Control Systems: Introduction to control systems for exoskeletons, programming from basic position control to advanced techniques using bio-signals from electromyography. 💡 VR and Video Games: Developing a video game and integrating the exoskeleton as a haptic interface, including creating and playing a PONG-style video game using your exoskeleton. 💡 Scientific Experiments: Conducting experiments to assess the exoskeleton's benefits on the human body and using basic statistics to analyze the results. #auxivo #eduexo #stem
