As gatekeepers to the financial system, #accountants can play a powerful role in combating #corruption – and by doing so support long-term value creation for their companies and societies. Among other things, the report also encourages accountants to champion #CollectiveAction approaches. When accountants come together with other stakeholders they can more effectively tackle shared problems of corruption and raise standards of ethics and integrity across the industry. On 24 and 25 June, members of the Collective Action initiative, the Metals Technology Initiative (MTI), attended the 5th International Collective Action Conference in Basel, Switzerland. On this occasion, our Private Sector Team, including Gemma Aiolfi, Niels Wohlwend and Boryana Kiskinova, was happy to facilitate a meeting with all members and, for the very first time, with some of their clients. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss emerging trends in the field of compliance between members of the initiative and their clients. The Compliance Officers of those organisations could share best practices and showcase the substantial progress made by the Metals Technology Initiative over the years. Exciting news from the MENA-OECD Business Integrity Network Annual Meeting!   This year's conference took place in Morocco, co-chaired by Morocco (INPPLC) and France (Agence française anticorruption).    Liza Young, from our Private Sector team, delivered an insightful presentation on the crucial role of #CollectiveAction in the renewable energy sector. She emphasised the importance of ensuring that the significant investments being made can lead to lasting, sustainable benefits for MENA countries.   Liza also highlighted the fruitful collaboration between the Basel Institute on Governance, the OECD - OCDE and INPPLC in identifying Collective Action opportunities in Morocco, aiming for a sustainable energy transition.   Together and through Collective Action, we can pave the way for a brighter, cleaner future! 💡🌍✨   Lisa Miller Amel Cheikhi-Derradj Yassir Chokairi Diane Pallez

On the sidelines of our International Collective Action Conference in Basel last week, we were happy to facilitate a meeting of the Metals Technology Initiative. This initiative provides a forum for exchange between compliance professionals from four leading metals technology companies: Danieli Group, Primetals Technologies, SMS group and Tenova. There is huge value in exchanging experiences and best practices on "bread and butter" topics like compliance training, anti-corruption policies and codes of ethics. To learn from each other, as well as to raise standards of integrity and ethics across the industry for the benefit of all. Gemma's speech preceded the prize-giving ceremony for the 2024 Collective Action Awards. One of the Awards has been renamed in memory of Gretta. Money is power – and with great power comes great responsibility. François VALERIAN, Chair of Transparency International, kicked off day 2 of our International Collective Action Conference in Basel with a powerful speech emphasising the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration and the inclusion of civil society.   To catalyse the power of Collective Action to combat corrupt systems and power networks, we need to get better at:   ✅ Reaching out to all companies –> including key players like the financial sector and state-owned enterprises. ✅ Getting to the right people within a company –> the leaders and decision makers, as well as compliance and risk management professionals. ✅ Achieving ethical transformation within a company –> so that ethical principles are instilled within all processes and staff, and in the relationships between the companies and their external stakeholders.   Thank you François for your inspiring words and for your – and your organisation's – support to anti-corruption Collective Action over the years.
