It’s International Youth Day and we are celebrating the power of technology in advancing youth contributions toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. 🌿 At ECOM, Julie Stasiuk and Vera, two young leaders in our Climate team are actively training field technicians on carbon footprinting at the farm level, including in remote areas with limited connectivity. Using innovative offline tools, they empower us to measure emissions and support us in implementing climate-smart practices, enhancing resilience and sustainability in cocoa and coffee landscapes.🌏 Contributing to this work, Ryosuke Kurashina, PhD, a young data scientist has supported our Research Team on completing a study utilising satellite imagery and machine learning algorithms to identify high-risk areas where deforestation is likely to accelerate in the coming years if preventive measures are not taken. 🔍 Combining the carbon footprint and deforestation assessment allows us to target and implement the more relevant interventions for our Net Zero goal and this is exactly the kind of leaps and bounds our youth is making as we are growing innovative leaders of the future ! 🌱 #InternationalYouthDay #growinginnovators #YouthEmpowerment #Sustainability #DigitalInnovation #FutureLeaders

Did you know that Brazil just became the first exporter of cotton worldwide?🥇 ECOM Agroindustrial Corp. Ltd.’s presence in Brazil started in 1935 and EISA - Empresa Interagrícola S.A., ECOM’s operation in Brazil, is now counted among the largest exporters of Brazilian cotton with an integrated supply chain and a high focus on sustainability. We were the first ones to be certified regenagri in Brazil ! Last week our EISA cotton team had the chance to visit Brazil's top cotton-producing states, as part of the "2024 Cotton Brazil Buyers Mission". The main goals of the eighth edition of this initiative were the following ones: 💡Gaining a deeper understanding about quality, sustainability and innovation with our clients by seeing cotton harvest at our world class farms, visiting ginning facilities and classing labs across the country. 🌍 Fostering strong relationships with industry representatives of key countries including: Bangladesh, China, Colombia, Honduras, India, South Korea, Mauritius, Mexico, Pakistan, Türkiye, USA and Vietnam. 🤝Demonstrating the exemplar collaboration and market-driven approach of the cotton industry as this mission is organized jointly by Abrapa - Associação Brasileira dos Produtores de Algodão and ANEA - Associação Nacional dos Exportadores de Algodão and also supported by Apex Brasil. #cottonbrazil #improvecottonimprovelives #naturalfibers #sustainability #growingforabetterfuture #plasticfree

☕Burundi is a fascinating yet challenging coffee origin due to the constant challenges farmers face in their efforts to make a living. This is why ECOM Agroindustrial Corp. Ltd.’s green coffee service provider nv Supremo sa founded the Akawa project 2016 and since then, it has received the support of various partners. The initiative was born on the discovery that a label/certification program does not allow farmers to access prosperity on its own. The project goes beyond compliance, as it focuses on farmers' financial security and was built upon four pillars 👉 💧Wash: Providing safer and cleaner access to drinking water for a total of 6000 Burundian families in collaboration with the NGO ZOA with the aim to allow clean water access for all Akawa farmers. 🌱Productivity: Development of plant nurseries next to washing stations, allowing the distribution of coffee seedling and the diversification of essences (forestry, fruits, and vegetables). Also distributing goats is also a way to ensure organic manure production and food support. 👐Gender equity: Launching the “Empowering Women in Smallholder Coffee Farms” Project with the support of ZOA last April. The project is helping women become leaders of their household to reach financial identified ambitions 👩🌾Transfer of knowledge: Supplying good agronomic training led by our agronomists on soil management, erosion control, organic manure production, pruning and stumping while agroforestry specific ones are coming soon. We believe this could equip coffee farmers to better face climate change and its challenges. There are other initiatives in the pipeline, such as rehabilitating Nyagashiha Elementary School to provide access to internet and software to improve the kids’ education. If you’re interested in supporting Burundian coffee you can contact the Supremo team to learn more about the project and how you can help fund these different pillars. #akawaproject #supremo #burundi #farmerprosperity #ECOM #growinginnovators
