⚠️ Monkeypox (Mpox) Virus: essential regional shipping updates. The situation is live and constantly changing, with the Mpox virus already impacting various regions, affecting shipping and crew safety. WEST AFRICA: No changes affecting vessels or crew have been reported, but it is recommended that crew members avoid city tours while at port for their safety. CONGO: The country most affected by Mpox. Crew visits to the city are already restricted due to safety concerns related to the military, and now Mpox concerns are reinforcing these restrictions. CHINA: Starting August 15th, arrivals from countries with confirmed Mpox infections must declare their condition to customs if they’ve been exposed or show symptoms like fever, headache, back pain, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, or rashes. ARGENTINA: A vessel entered quarantine due to a crew member with symptoms compatible with Mpox. Tests have since come back negative according to a statement from the health ministry. We will continue keep you informed, sharing new updates as soon as we receive them from our agents on the ground Contact us directly for information on specific ports/regions.      🚢Raise your hand if you’ve ever heard of the MV Vinalines Queen.   🛳️ And what about the Costa Concordia cruise liner?   At last night’s sunset cruise held by the Propeller Club - Geneva to commemorate the Day of the Seafarer, Captain Harpreet Singh asked these very questions.    In response to the first nobody moved, and to the second, everyone’s hands shot up.   So, why does everybody know what happened to the Costa Concordia, but nobody has heard of the MV Vinalines Queen? This encapsulates the plight of seafarers all over the world.   You may have been wondering what happened to these two vessels in 2010/11. Well, it’s less about what happened, and more about how it was reported…   🌊 The MV Vinalines Queen went missing, and with it, 22 seafarers who all died. This tragedy was quietly mentioned in a couple of industry publications. 🌊 Meanwhile, the Costa Concordia cruise liner sank, killing 32 people and dominating the headlines worldwide. 🌍   Seafarers are the backbone of everything we do, yet paradoxically, it is as if they do not exist. Their mental health, their personal safety and tragedies: blocked by regulations, underrepresented and unreported.   Working on the ocean is considered one of the most dangerous workplaces on the planet, with 1,000s of seafarers losing their lives each year.   Let's unite in our efforts to support and recognise these essential workers - the forgotten heroes who support so many elements of our daily lives. 🤝❤️   A big thank you to The Mission to Seafarers for the work they do with crews across the globe, and to the Propeller Club - Geneva for helping to raise awareness. And thank you to Capt. Capt. Nicolas Bernard, AFNI, Patrick Bachofner, and Capt. Harpreet Singh for sharing their experience and expertise with us.   🏃♀️ If you'd like to participate in the Maritimemountainrace.org this September to support seafarers’ welfare, please reach out. Our Commercial Director, Martaxelle Erussard, is seeking two more teammates to form a team of three.   #DayOfTheSeafarer #DayOfTheSeafarer2024

🌦️ Why you always need a meteorologist at hand!   AI has dominated the headlines, events, and our conversations since ChatGPT came out in November 2022. Meanwhile, the weather has taken a backseat.   Everyone who has seen the recent torrents of water flooding through Zermatt or the heatwave in Greece this month (the earliest ever), knows that weather is the breaking news.   And those who can predict it are being kept very busy.   Earlier this week, on a warm summer’s evening, three analysts from LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group) presented the latest research on the impact of extreme weather on the commodities markets. The presentation was packed with new information and vocabulary, not dissimilar from learning a new language.   They also shared that we are in for a good summer in Europe 🌞   Afterwards, it was the perfect evening to step out onto the terrace of the Hôtel du Parc des Eaux-Vives and enjoy the stunning view while connecting with everyone.   Thank you to LSEG for an intense and interesting presentation with special thanks to Alessandro Sanos, CAIA, SCR Sanos, Global Director Sales Strategy & Execution, Commodities who moderated the discussion between Weather Analyst Marcin Górski, Senior Power Research Analyst Francisco Gaspar Machado, and Hydrogen Analyst Michał Żuk.   #MeteorologyMatters #ExtremeWeather #ClimateChange

🌿🦋 The butterfly’s ugly sister is back… …the Flighted Spongy Moth Complex (FSMC)! This pest, formerly known as the Asian Gypsy Moth (AGM), is notorious for wreaking havoc on the environment and onboard vessels. 🚢🌍 Here are some key points to know about FSMC: 🗓️ The female flight season generally runs from 1 June to 30 September, though this can vary based on geography (in Japan and Russia it can start as early as 15 May). Stay vigilant! 📅🔍 🌍 Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, and the US all have strict regulations in place to combat FSMC. Compliance is crucial – make sure you’re in the loop and consult your local agents. ✅ 📜 If you’re calling at a port in an FSMC-regulated area during the season, your vessel requires a certificate stating it is FSMC-free at the last port visited in the high-risk area. Ensure you’re certified! 🔖🚢 🔍 The FSMC is known for its broad host range, affecting over 500 plant species, including oaks, maples, and many fruit trees. 🌳🍁🍎 🌱 Female FSMCs are capable of laying hundreds of eggs, leading to rapid population growth and widespread defoliation. 🥚➡️🐛 For detailed information about local port regulations and compliance, get in touch with our team today ⬇ YOUR VESSELS, OUR PORTS ➡️ Book a port call with Martaxelle Erussard 📞 +41 (0) 22 552 0051 📩 [email protected] #EnvironmentProtection #FSMC #MaritimeSafety #InvasiveSpecies #MaritimeIndustry

We’ve been thinking about doing this for some time… Sitting in the middle of our local agents and the maritime community here in Switzerland, we often hear breaking news and spot trends early. That got us thinking about how we could keep you in the know in a minute or two (we know your time is precious). And so, the very first edition of MasOceans Port Pulse was born! 🎉 We're excited to kick off this series and bring you the latest shipping updates. Without further ado, here's what's happening next week and beyond: 🦋 CHINA: High-Risk FSMC Season Alert It’s pesky moth season again! This year, the FSMC (ex AGM) high-risk infestation period started on June 1st. According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the United States Department of Agriculture this year, North China (north of latitude 31̊15’N) is now defined as an FSMC high-risk infestation area between June 1 and September 30. 📜 ARGENTINA: New Presidential Laws The Senate has approved several tough reforms proposed by President Milei, resulting in strikes and demonstrations. Our local agent, Martin Shipping & Co, is reviewing these changes to determine their potential impact on shipping, including possible strikes. Stay tuned for updates. 🚢 SPAIN: Major Investment in Castellón Port Exciting news from Spain! The port of Castellón is set to receive over 760 million euros in investment from 2024 to 2028. Keep an eye on this development for potential opportunities. 🌍 TRIPS & VISITS ⚪ Our colleague, Ricardo Young, Commercial Director at CAPAS EEV, CORP. - Shipping Agency in #Panama is visiting us from 25-28 June ⚪ We’re planning a trip to Istanbul from June 28 to July 5. Last night's shipping drinks in Lausanne, held by the LCSC , was nothing short of spectacular! 🚢🍹 Amidst the vibrant atmosphere under the canopy of some incredible trees at the Hotel Mirabeau, our Commercial Director, Martaxelle Erussard, mingled with friends, colleagues, and new acquaintances. It was a night filled with laughter, connections, and the unmistakable buzz of a thriving community. 🌳✨ A huge shoutout to Christophe Bless for his vision and dedication to the Lausanne shipping and trading community. From beginning in 2017 with some 30 enthusiasts attending each event to a now bustling crowd of 150, the LCSC events have become a highlight on the shipping calendar. Here's to more unforgettable evenings like this! #Networking #ShippingCommunity

🌟 Sharing is caring 🌟 But what has that got to do with shipping? Our Commercial Director, Martaxelle Erussard, had an inspiring lunch with WISTA SWITZERLAND yesterday! ⛲☀️ Everyone enjoyed the good weather on the terrace by the lake at La Potinière, while hearing all about mentorship and the power of a right attitude in the workplace. Josiane Tistounet, who is leading WISTA’s mentorship programme 'Sharing is Caring,' gave a short but impactful introduction, emphasising the importance of mentorship and support. The event was a wonderful opportunity to meet new faces and see how the WISTA association is growing. We loved getting to introduce ourselves around the table and connect with amazing people. Here's to fostering mentorship and community in the shipping and trading industry! 🚢🤝✨ #Mentorship #WomenInShipping #SharingIsCaring

It was a summit of new beginnings and onward battles.   On June 6th, CTA Association hosted an inspiring Leading Women Summit here in Geneva, Switzerland.   The event focused on addressing the challenges and opportunities for women in Commodity Trading, Shipping, and Finance, and empowering them to step into leading roles and unlock their full potential. 🌍🚢📈   While change is slow in our sector and a gender disparity persists, we're moving in the right direction. It's encouraging to hear that more women raise their hands now when mixed groups are asked ‘Who wants to be a trader?’! 🙋♀️💪   With nearly 30 years of experience in shipping, Martaxelle Erussard, Commercial Director of MasOceans SA, shared her thoughts:   “We still need to continue making noise. For so many years, this industry was closed off to women. But things are changing. Conferences like the one held by the CTA are vital steps forward.” 🌟📢   During the summit, the CTA unveiled their vibrant new branding with logos and colours inspired by Geneva’s cantonal flag—red and yellow! 🇨🇭✨   It was also a new beginning for Philippe Nasr, who was elected President of the CTA earlier this year. We wish him all the best in his role, which offers so many opportunities to bring together people of different ages, backgrounds, cultures and experience to continuously improve our industry.   Let's keep pushing for progress and support women in these fields. Together, we can create a more inclusive and prosperous industry! 🚀🌐   #Leadership #WomenInTrade #CommodityTrading # #DiversityAndInclusion #WomenInBusiness
