Thought For Food is the world’s next gen innovation engine for food and agriculture. We create, empower and support a new generation of leaders to solve our planet’s most pressing challenge: How to sustainably feed 10 billion people? In 2011, Thought For Food launched the world’s first innovation platform for food and agriculture. We spearheaded a comprehensive program to engage thousands of young people from all corners of the world to take on the challenge of feeding the world, and empower them to become entrepreneurs. Today, we worked with 15,000+ young leaders, catalyzed the creation of thousands of new ideas and launched the world’s most game-changing social-impact startups. Most importantly, we built a unique culture driven forward by a highly-engaged global community that focuses on collaboration, diversity, creativity and fun to create transformational change. The TFF Community brings together scientists, poets, chefs, artists, social entrepreneurs, biohackers, and more. We are thrilled to see that the world has caught on to what we started - food and ag is now a hot innovation area, and there are plenty of competitions, accelerators, events and investments happening in this space. The topic of the next generation is also gaining traction, and we are thrilled to see leaders from our TFF Community scaling their ideas, gaining leadership roles in the industry and commanding stages the world over to share their perspectives. There is much more to be done. When we evaluate what the world needs and what we bring, we see our role in creating, empowering and supporting the next generation of innovators, meeting them at every stage of their journeys - from ideation through to investment. We are building our global footprint to equip young people everywhere at anytime with the mindset, values, approaches and connections they need to be successful changemakers - and support them to navigate the critical early stages of their professional lives.

    🌍 Happy Earth Day, friends! The theme of #EarthDay2024 is "Planet versus Plastics." It seems the perfect time to consider the opportunity of #multispectralthinking for solution-building. 'Versus' is such a binary, black-and-white term—us versus them; good versus bad; one way is right, one way is wrong. Thinking like this makes it harder to bring to life comprehensive solutions that we can ALL work together towards. Plastic pollutes our oceans and overflows our landfills. What makes YOU happy? For me, happiness boils down to nurturing relationships, embracing creativity, and creating an impact. Coming from places like Lebanon, Morocco, Colombia, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Europe, and the USA, we connected across cultures and generations in an unforgettable backdrop, enjoying food, music, dancing, and conversations; sharing our wildest ideas and dreams for the future; and committing to support each other through the rollercoaster of change-making and entrepreneurship.     In a recent conversation with Dr. Teresa Babuscio from Corteva Agriscience, she asked me: "How can #regenerativeagriculture tackle gender and age imbalances? What benefits come from empowering #women in agriculture?" My answer: true regeneration should go beyond biological and crop diversity, and also consider the diversification of the very people involved. This means addressing age and gender imbalances when it comes to focus, financing, and support. Studies consistently show that when women's needs and interests are centered in agricultural systems, yields increase by up to 30%. I then highlighted the work of amazing next-gen women entrepreneurs who bring incredible levels of vision, leadership, resilience, and business acumen to the agrifood sector, including: 🪱Nada Ghanem from DOODA Solutions in Lebanon: she is building vermicompost systems at scale to enhance depleted soils and improve yields. 🧪Marissa Cuevas Flores from microTERRA in Mexico: she bringing healthier, circular food ingredients to market, such as her just-released product Flora that increases the taste and texture of foods using lower levels of sugar and that cleans water from agricultural production (check out: https://lnkd.in/eG7e_YJ2) 🐟 Azellia Alma Shafira from Banoo Indonesia: she is supporting smallholder aquaculture farmers to improve water quality with cost-effective microbubble generators - I have a whole case study about Banoo in my book, by the way! 🧊 Sara Benlafqih from BMTA&C in France / Morocco: she is providing smallholder farmers with accessible, solar-powered, non polluting cold storage systems that reduce food loss and waste and improve profitability. The list goes on and on... For business, investors, and policy leaders, investing in young women isn't just the right thing to do, it's the SMART thing to do.     This #worldpulsesday - just to get your pulses up - I'd like to share some exciting updates about pulse-(and legume) focused INNOVATIONS! 👩🏻🔬🧬 🤘 ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ 🫘 COWPEAS (aka black eyed peas) are known to be one of the first domesticated crops! 🤯 They are grown and consumed all over the world due to their affordability and high protein content, but are often stigmatized as 'poor man's meat.' As a result, cowpea isn't usually a big priority in most research and development programs. Luckily, this is changing... In 2019, #Nigeria made history by approving #geneticallymodified cowpea plants that are resistant to pod borers. 🐛 This was developed by the local agricultural research group at Ahmadu Bello University to reduce pesticide use by combating the insect pest that is responsible for up to 80% of crop losses. This year it seems #Ghana will also roll out GM cowpea seeds! And BetterSeeds Ltd is using gene-editing to make cowpea suitable for mechanized harvesting - unleashing the potential of cowpeas for mass scale cultivation in the USA! 🚀 ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ 🫘 FABA BEANS (aka broad beans) are rich in protein, fiber, and essential nutrients, making them a great alternative to meat. Like cowpeas, Faba beans improve soil health by fixing #nitrogen, making them invaluable for #regenerativeagriculture. In 2023, KeyGene, Royal Agrifirm Group, Ebro Ingredients, ME-AT, and Upfield joined forces to start #FabaFood. This is an initiative focused on developing modern, food-grade Faba bean varieties using innovative #speedbreeding technology. Additionally, the partners will focus on faba-focused agronomic research and testing, development of protein extraction methods, and development of consumer products. This is the kind of industry partnership I DREAM of: value-chain partners united to unlock the potential of future crops from end-to-end: breeding to agronomy to processing to consumption and beyond! ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ 🫛 Chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans) are celebrated for their versatility in dishes and for improving heart health and weight management. They are a staple in my house! NuCicer is using #precisionbreeding to develop chickpeas with 75% more protein than conventional varieties. This innovation can catapult #chickpea from a niche to mainstream player, helping diversify the plant protein arena from the usual suspects of #soy and #yellowpea. 🚨 Main takeaway --- pulses can be consumed on their own or their plants can be processed into valuable food ingredients or used as feed. They offer enormous potential for transforming our food system to be more resilient, healthy, and delicious. ❗️That's why agriculture companies, food companies, and entrepreneurs alike should increase their focus on innovating for the #possibilitiesofpulses.
