Ahead of the World #Water week (#WWWeek), we should all examine how we can leverage our #resources, #expertise and #ideas to create impactful #solutions that address both immediate #water needs and long-term #sustainability. #Water is everywhere and nowhere. It is so ubiquitous that we barely notice it – and we also take it for granted. The #oceans cover 70 per cent of our planet but #freshwater that is actually usable and available is surprisingly limited: only 0.05 per cent of water on Earth. That tiny amount is incredibly precious and needs to be treated as such. Small-scale #farmers and #rural communities are on the front lines. They are the stewards of our natural #resources, and they are dependent on safe water not just for their own lives but their #livelihoods. Yet they receive less than 1% of global #climate finance. International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is committed to changing this through innovative #financing and #partnerships. For example, we invest in tech-driven solutions in #Cambodia that allow farmers to #irrigate with their smartphones, and deep #wells in #Mongolia that are de-escalating #conflict between #pastoralist communities.
