Last week, the World Health Organization declared the #mpox outbreak in several African countries a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. By doing so, it hopes to direct funding and attract international cooperation for the emergency response. In too many countries, there is not enough access to healthcare, laboratory surveillance and diagnostic services to adequately address outbreaks such as this.   We know that official development assistance is insufficient to meet growing health needs in the world. This is why I was in Japan this month with my WHO Foundation colleagues to meet investors, government representatives and entrepreneurs exploring ways to expand healthcare via impact investing initiatives for health.
