📣 Women+ in MedTeCH was thrilled to attend the MedTech Innovation Event in Biel, where industry leaders and innovators gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this event.
Here are the key insights we captured:
1️⃣ Reflecting on a Decade of Innovation
Dr. Heiko Visarius , a familiar and respected figure in our community, kicked off the event with a retrospective look at the last 10 years of the event. His reflection set the stage for a day filled with forward-thinking ideas and inspirational discussions.
2️⃣ Innovation at the Core
George Raeber, Head of R&D at Straumann Group, delivered a compelling presentation on maintaining innovation as a core value in MedTech. He emphasized that 36% of MedTech innovations fail due to poor management or neglecting the patient’s needs. Straumann tackles this by deeply understanding their customers, identifying Problems Worth Solving, and investing heavily in emerging technologies to stay disruptive and relevant in the market.
3️⃣ 💸 Funding Opportunities
Sasha Hugentobler provided a valuable update on Horizon Europe funding through Euresearch. Her tips are crucial for those looking to secure financial support to drive their innovative projects forward. This session was a great reminder of the resources available to our community as we continue to push the boundaries of MedTech.
4️⃣ Women in MedTech panel and lessons learnt
A panel discussion featuring Greta Preatoni (CEO of MYNERVA), Luiza D. (Managing Director of Komed Health AG), and Bettina Ernst (Biotech Entrepreneur and Investor) highlighted the importance of eliminating bias in funding women-led companies and showed that they are as invested and motivated as other CEOs. Besides, Greta and Luiza shared their respective journeys and main takeaways:
🔹 Luiza emphasized the importance of having a long term vision while keeping flexible to adapt to change, understanding customers, and building a strong team.
🔹 Greta encouraged not to fear asking "stupid" questions, seeking support from those that have been down that road before, and stepping out of one’s comfort zone to grow.
5️⃣ 🚀 Startup Pitches: Shaping the Future of MedTech
The event culminated in exciting startup pitches from six innovative companies; NEOSENS, MUGENBIO, DigeHealth, IMPLANZ, OptimalPsi, and Nanoflex Robotics . These startups showcased cutting-edge solutions offering a glimpse into the future of MedTech landscape.
