It serves as a bridge between financial aspirations and environmental responsibility. Xilva is committed to using due diligence as an enabler for the financing of nature-based projects by providing a standardized, data-driven framework and methodology to consistently evaluate nature-based projects. On 25 September, Xilva's co-founders Tim Duehrkoop and Jamie Micah Lawrence will be sharing our unique formula for nature-based due diligence with Foundation Development and Climate Alliance's supporting members at its 8th Company-Roundtable. The Foundation Development and Climate Alliance, or Stiftung Allianz für Entwicklung und Klima, is an alliance of more than 1500 members in the private, public and civic sectors initiated by the German Government - Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Some of the topics they will cover: ✅ How due diligence for nature-based investments is done ✅ Best practices & learnings (from applying Xilva GRADE on over 100 assessments) ✅ Common red flags and risks ✅ A case study To participate, please contact the Foundation directly. ------ 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 Foundation Development and Climate Alliance. ❇ An excellent example of due diligence as an enabler "During the inaugural BIRA accelerator (Biodiversity Investment and Research Accelerator) Xilva led by Jamie and his team ran a deep due diligence on The Kilimanjaro Project - we are happy to report that there were no red flags, but there were definitely some potential red flags and highlighted risks. Through understanding our risks better, we are now better able to share with investors where our gaps and risks are and how their funding can help mitigate these risks. Within 3 months of our due diligence with Xilva we have been able to address a number of the potential risks from building out our dataroom and aligning our documentation, to honing in on our project narrative to align with project intervention, and addressing land tenure issues (to name a few)." ⚠⚠⚠ An urgent call-to-action 👇 Early-stage projects need funders' support NOW to survive the valley of death.

I couldn't RESHARE my shared post that Jamie Micah Lawrence shared and commented on - but his challenge is an urgent call to action. Thank you for joining the conversation Jamie! Dear #NBS #NCS funding community, impact investors and DFIs, come on, we can do better than this! Early-stage projects need assistance, now! So your organisation is risk averse? - Risk can be mitigated with a good plan and a deep understanding of the project. So your strategy is restrictive - reach out to understand. NbS projects have multiple impacts, you might be surprised how it does fit. Not the right geography? - our climate & biodiversity crisis isn't so selective. Not the right stage? - then help get it to the right stage. If you don't, who will? To get great, investor-ready NbS projects we need great pipeline. The pioneers need your support just as much (if not more) as the incumbents. Let's stop allowing process and strategy to block our collective progress. Apply great Due Diligence, use it as an enabler not as a blocker. Onwards! #DueDiligence #philanthropy #climate #biodiversity Some background - During the inaugural BIRA accelerator (Biodiversity Investment and Research Accelerator) Xilva led by Jamie and his team ran a deep due diligence on The Kilimanjaro Project - we are happy to report that there were no red flags, but there were definitely some potential red flags and highlighted risks. Through understanding our risks better, we are now better able to share with investors where our gaps and risks are and how their funding can help mitigate these risks. 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲? Having done more than 100 forest project due diligence & assessments, some questions we ask are: ❔ How can we redefine benefit sharing in sustainable forest projects from merely mitigating risks to creating lasting social and ecological harmony? ❔ How can we integrate right-holders' needs from the beginning, so we can design projects that truly make a difference? 📖 Read more in our latest blog ( 🔗 in Comments) 👇

Biodiversity credit market - can it stand on its own? Carbon Pulse interviewed a few experts. Read what they, including Xilva's CEO Tim Duehrkoop, have to say. 🔗 to story in Comments. Biodiversity, together with carbon and social co-benefits, is one of the areas under <Impact> that Xilva assesses in any forest & nature-based projects. It is important to have a 360-view of a nature-based project. Hence the Xilva GRADE framework takes into consideration all the interconnected areas of a project - Impact (biodiversity, carbon, social), Safeguards, Project Design, Leadership & Team, Financial Viability, and Growth Potential.

Happy World Environment Day! 💚 "We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land." #GenerationRestoration We love the inspirational message on the World Environment Day official website. Investments in nature-based solutions need to more than double to US$542 billion by 2030 to meet the world’s climate, biodiversity and ecosystem restoration goals. We are the generation that can make it happen. Increasingly, companies are making net zero pledges, and as investments transition from polluting asset classes, it raises the question of where that money will transition to. Of the land-based natural climate solutions available to us, forests have the greatest potential for carbon sequestration backed by science (https://lnkd.in/d4wd2p6z). They also provide an important array of additional benefits such as biodiversity, improved water, soil and air, and enhanced rural livelihoods. However, big corporate and finance organizations simply do not have the mechanisms it would normally use to deploy funds available to it when considering NbS projects. Due diligence, the process of comprehensive research and analysis, plays a crucial role in nature-based investments. It serves as the bridge between financial aspirations and environmental stewardship. By conducting due diligence, investors can identify risks, maximize returns, and ensure that their investments align with sustainable practices and regulatory requirements. Xilva is on a mission to use due diligence as an enabler of funding nature by providing a standardized, data-driven framework and methodology (the blueprint for nature-based due diligence) to assess nature-based projects consistently. By identifying issues that need to be resolved or mitigated, we create a platform for both sides - funders and nature projects, to engage and mutually agree on milestones so funders receive the necessary assurance to deploy funds, and projects improve to become investable. If you are interested in learning more about our unique formula, speak to any of us. Liling Koh Jamie Micah Lawrence Tim Duehrkoop Yeray Martínez Montesdeoca Núria Garcia-Forner 𝘗.𝘚. Forests @Xilva - Helping both Companies & Forest-Positive Projects understand each others needs

The magic is somehwere in the middle. 💚 🌳 "Trying to make restoration projects investable under current fiscal systems may skew natural systems to fit financing criteria, rather than the other way around, jeopardizing both social and ecological outcomes of restoration." 💲 ⚖ We see this a lot at Xilva. There is indeed much that the project developer can (and should) do to become more 'investor savvy' but, at the same time, funders of forest projects must be willing to meet them half way or (through a process-heavy drive for IRR) risk compromising the ecological integrity and all those intangible (i.e. not yet monetized) co-benefits that are the true anchors to project resilience and success in a landscape. 👩🎓 [Löfqvist, S., Garrett, R.D. & Ghazoul, J. Today, and 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑑𝑎𝑦, we celebrate the beauty and importance of forests. For us at Xilva, it's not just about what we do using modern technologies & technical innovation, but rather, it's about the profound WHY behind our actions. Beyond the practical considerations of forests being carbon sinks, the home for most of the planet’s species, and the source of livelihoods for nearly one billion people, forests hold a deeper significance for us at Xilva. They represent the epitome of resilience, adaptability, and interconnectedness. In the face of adversity, forests teach us the power of regeneration and renewal. They remind us of our interconnectedness with nature and with each other, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and collective action in safeguarding our shared home. By protecting and restoring forests, we are not only safeguarding the future of our planet but also honoring the inherent value and dignity of all life forms. We hope to see more partners join us and stand united together in our passion, purpose and dedication to forest and nature! 🌳🌿 Happy International Forest Day! 🌿🌳 #ForestDay
