As a part of our monthly Game Changer Series from the Sport for Refugees Coalition, we’re proud to highlight the Hellenic Olympic Committee- where the Olympic values remain enduring! 🏛️ Two months after the Olympic torch was lit in Olympia in April, the Hellenic Olympic Committee hosted “Together in Sport- Together in Taekwondo” at the historic site of the Panathenaic Stadium. 🥋The event united refugee children with local youth from taekwondo clubs to promote social cohesion through sport. 🔗 Read more about their work here: https://lnkd.in/d_GBrbc9 #thrivethroughsport

Together, we are building a team like no other to ensure young people affected by displacement thrive through sport.
Info
The Olympic Refuge Foundation believes in a society where everyone belongs. Its mission is to shape a movement where young people affected by displacement thrive through sport. Its goal is for 1 million young people affected by displacement to access safe sport by 2024. The Olympic Refuge Foundation (ORF) was established by the IOC to support refugees and populations affected by displacement through sport. The ORF functions in lieu of a traditional National Olympic Committee preparing the Refugee Olympic Team and manages the Refugee Athlete Support Programme as well as the IOC Refugee Olympic Team. In addition, the ORF works across the globe in communities affected by displacement, using sport to improve mental health, foster inclusion and create a sense of belonging.

🥹 Take us back! Exactly one month ago, we were on the banks of the river Seine in Paris with the Refugee Olympic Team enjoying an evening at La Maison Airbnb on Jardins de Pont Neuf, in an event co-organised by Airbnb, Airbnb.org and the Olympic Refuge Foundation. Airbnb.org created personalized drawings of each of the 37 athletes of the Refugee Olympic Team, which were used to decorate the beautiful boat setting. ⛴️🎨 Speaking at the event, Jojo Ferris, Head of ORF said: “Much like Airbnb, the Refugee Olympic Team was born out of an idea – a different way of seeing the world. As Airbnb and the Olympic Refuge Foundation we are aligned on our values and commitment to creativity and through this shared approach of collaboration we will continue to work together to find a sense of belonging for young people affected by displacement." Airbnb and Airbnb.org support the work of the ORF having donated financially and in kind to the Foundation and allowing all 74 Refugee Athlete Scholarship-holders to benefit from the Airbnb Athlete Travel Grant. Airbnb has also supported previous members of the Refugee Olympic Team with temporary housing to allow them to pursue their education and training. 🏡✈️🎓 Thank you to Airbnb and Airbnb.org for the ongoing support and making Paris extra special for the athletes through these beautiful memories. ❤ 🎨 Designs by the talented Nathan Bell

Today, we honour the incredible commitment of humanitarian workers who tirelessly support communities in need. ⛑️ Even in the most challenging humanitarian contexts, sports can significantly enhance well-being, safety and inclusion. Recently, 19 trainers from the Ukrainian Red Cross #MHPSS support unit - firm believers in the power of sport - successfully completed the Sport Coach+ program! They’re now equipped to provide training on creating safe and supportive sport environments. We are proud to partner with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC on this initiative and work alongside dedicated implementing partners like the Ukrainian Red Cross. Together, we’re making a difference where it matters most. 🌟 --- German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) Polski Komitet Olimpijski Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (Comitetul Olimpic si Sportiv Roman) Български Червен кръст / Bulgarian Red Cross #thrivethroughsport #safesports
🏅Recently, 19 trainers from the Ukrainian Red Cross Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Unit have successfully completed the Sport Coach+ programme. The training aims to acquire essential knowledge and skills for understanding how stressful situations can affect the behaviour and development of young athletes and create a safe and supportive sports environment. The trained coaches will subsequently provide training for sports coaches across Ukraine. The project will be implemented in several stages: 🔺 training Ukrainian Red Cross coaches and volunteers on supportive communication and methods to reduce stress in the sports environment; 🔺 training and supporting coaches who work with young people in various sports institutions; 🔺 creating a safe and supportive environment for young athletes in specialised educational institutions where they can acquire knowledge and skills, develop emotional resilience, and enhance performance and self-confidence. The Sport Coach+ project is developed in collaboration with the IFRC Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support and the Olympic Refuge Foundation. It is implemented by the Ukrainian Red Cross Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Unit team. #redcrossukraine #Ukraine #MentalHealth #PsychosocialSupport #SportsCoaching #ThanksVolunteers
