ANNOUNCEMENT: Call for stories – 2024 UC Cyber Risk Program Annual Report

Person holding Cyber Risk Program Annual Reports

How do you tell the story of something that didn’t happen?

That is one of the challenges of telling the stories around cyber-security. Often the story is about what didn’t happen. There are many stories like this that originate here at the University of California, where security professionals like you are constantly accessing, and preventing, risks and threats. The Cyber-risk Coordination Center (C3) team tells the stories of what didn’t happen (and how they prevented it) in the UC Cyber Risk Program Annual Report.

This report serves as an account of program achievements, highlights cybersecurity endeavors across UC campuses, and outlines our strategic outlook for the future.

For example, in the 2023 UC Cyber Risk Annual Report, they highlighted systemwide Tools and Services and focused on stories like:

They talked to Luis Perez at UC Los Angeles about phishing campaigns, Professor Giovanni Vigna (UC Santa Barbara) about an AI-powered cybersecurity research project, and Pegah Parsi at UC San Diego about privacy courses.

As they begin to gather information for the 2024 report, C3 continues to focus on valuable systemwide resources and the vital role that our campuses and health systems play in protecting UC security year-round. These stories help shine a spotlight on you, the people throughout the University of California, and the initiatives you’re spearheading to make all of us more cyber safe.

The Cyber Risk Program Annual Report team is eager to learn about your impactful work. They would love to hear from you about you and your teams’:

Sharing Your Story

Contact Wendy Rager, Manager, Cyber Risk Coordination Center at [email protected] and/or Judi Baker, Digital Risk Communications and Events Manager at [email protected] with your story. They can then meet with you to capture more details. The team includes a professional writer; they can work with you on drafting and editing your story. If you already have something written, they would be happy to review it.

The team also knows the power of storytelling through visuals – images, flowcharts, infographics, and other interesting aids. If you have metrics or other story elements that can be told visually, they would be happy to discuss this with you. A professional designer working with C3 takes great care to translate stories through thoughtfully-executed design and brand elements.

Once the UC Cyber Program Annual Report is published, the beautifully-designed printed booklet and the online version are shared a variety of ways, including on social media, through the UC IT blog, and on various UC Slack channels.

The stories and information shared in the UC Cyber Risk Program Annual Report help inform, engage, and inspire others throughout UC who are passionate about making UC a safer place for everyone.
